I'm just not comfortable having the car shipped from an out of state dealer...... too risky it seems. If I did a deal with a CA dealer, then how would I pick up the vehicle? Who would go over the car with me? What if there was some minor damage that I didn't see until 2-3 days later? I mean would I just get the keys from some truck driver?
actually busy with work. just sent u a PM

Does anyone have info on how much off MSRP southern CA dealerhips are doing? I have heard $10,000 off. Is that accurate?

did u buy it or not. dealers r known to give ridiculously low ball figure if they know u r only price shopping, this deters u away from other dealers. its always a diff story when u r ready to deal, then things change.

Can you give us a breakdown of the price? There seem to be different theories on what "invoice" really is. Some say it's 6.5% off MSRP, other say the holdback is not included, etc.

So please tell me what the MSRP was and what the final sales price was (before taxes, etc.)

Did you get any quotes from LA dealers - like $10,000 off MSRP?

I had a long conversation with a local dealer today and was told that if they had to give me $7000 off MSRP then they would be selling the car at a loss.

Now I know that this is probably a sales pitch but when I looked at the invoice on the car it's $94,665. MSRP is $101,630. So, the $7000 off is actually right at invoice....

it came out to be about 10k off MSRP, he is the fleet manager. I bought several cars from this dealer. They showed me on the computer the invoice and the -$2000.00 below the invoice price. All I know is I would only buy if it's at least 10k off msrp.

I'm waiting for invoice on 2008 S63 or slightly used 2007 S65 for $135,000.00 or less, Should be possible in about 6 to 10 months.

Okay, tell me what you think: I have gone back and forth via email/phone with the salesman. After about 3 rounds, he agreed to give me $7000 off and each time he keeps saying that he hopes to close the deal. At what point do I stop? He is a very nice guy and does not come across as sleazy/cocky -it's hard for me to be blunt and brash with him like I would if he was not so nice.... From reading the posts here it sounds like $8000-$10000 off MSRP is what I should shoot for. Somebody on this forum too got the same $7200 disc. from the same dealer....

What do I do?

It all depends on how much $2,800.00 means to you, if it's not that important just close the deal and start enjoying the car. Otherwise wait till the end of the month and try to get $1,800.00 more off. The more patient you are the more likely you will get what you want. Good Luck.

Thanks for the advice. That's pretty much what I thought.

$2800 means A LOT. It means a lot to Warren Buffet, and so it means a lot more to me. I can wait - in no hurry.

It's just a little uncomfortable to "haggle" when the salesman/manager on the other end says that they are ready to move, have done all they can, have worked very very hard to get me the deal, etc. That's the hard part for me. I get the feeling that they will soon start to get pissed off

Yes, I just put down a $5000 deposit for it yesterday. Decided to go with MB-Georgetown since my wife and I decided that we just weren't comfortable doing a long distance deal (service/loaner issues + driving all the way to Dallas, etc). My car will arrive in mid April. Marty was excellent and I feel REALLY bad about not giving him my business.......sigh

At any rate, I think I got a good deal: $8000 off MSRP. The talk about $10,000 off that we see here on the BBS seems to be stuff of legend.... not one dealer I communicated with (even the Southern CA ones) were willing to even go past $9000 off!

Here's what I'm getting:

- Obsidian Black S550 (does not have that greyish/blue tone that Majestic black has). Looks more stunning than flat black!!
- AMG sports pak
- P3 (the active comfort seats are amazing. And ticklish )
- Wood/leather steering
- iPod kit

They also agreed not to charge me the extra $710 for metallic paint (Obsidian black)... although there seems to be some confusion about whether MB actually charges the $710 or not.

congratulation man
fantastic deal. great color and pkg. mine is exactly same but w/out sport pkg. there is no charge for metallic paint. i did not think they made obsidian blk, thought they had replaced it with maj blk. guess i was wrong. wow mid april thats a long wait, is it because of the color.

Yes, that's what I found out later (after putting down the $5k). They actually agreed to give me $8500 off but because the salesman said that there was a $710 charge for metallic paint, we agreed to go with $8k off. I'll have to hit them up for the $500 once I go in to pick up the car. I think that since the Obsidian is new - he just assumed that there would be a charge (cause we did see the $710 charge on some of the CL/SL/E floor models)

Yes, it's a new thing they just added on and some salespeople are simply not aware of it. I went to the dealership yesterday and saw all 3 blacks: flat black, majestic and Obsidian. The Obsidian was by far the best and most stunning. It's flat black w/the metallic look, unlike the Majestic which seems to have this greyish tone at certain angles. Oh well, not a huge deal I guess.

Yes, it's because of the color.... I'm not too concerned. Gives me more time to think about financing/cash/lease issues.

Any pics of your car? What tires are on it - Conti's/Pirelli's?

Been browsing the forum for some time now - very useful forum, lots of good information.

Bought a s500 blk/blk at 10% off MSRP (~$9.5K discount).

Looks like you got a very good deal.....

The law of "whims and fancies" seems to be in effect...depending on where you live I guess. MB of Austin was not willing to do more that $4-5k off MSRP. 15 miles up the street, MB of Georgetown gave me $8.5k off

Where are you located?

In Northern California - bay area. I was speaking to a number of different dealers, I think most of them would have given me the car for $8-9K of MSRP. I had an offer from another local dealer at ~$9K off MSRP.

I will need to buy an extended warranty at some point (I guess I have a year from purchase date), in the past I have shopped around for it at various MB dealers and just went for the best price since it is honored at all MB dealers.

if you dont mind me asking, what dealer/salesperson did you work with? im trying to structure the best deal I can find locally up here in the bay area before I go down to socal and see what I can come up with there.

Right now my dad, before I got involed, got 1500/mo, 39mo/15k year, 0 down on a s550. got the msrp down to 85, car had P2.

Today's MSRP (incl gas guzzler and P2 only) is $91,685. If you knocked them down to $85,000, that's a $6685 discount......

Not too bad. The min. here seems to be $7500 off MSRP. Looks like a lot of the SoCal dealerships can do $10,000 off straight up

i got your reply on the other thread so I'll def start doing some research down in socal.

my dads a little hesitant to believe me that theyd take 10k off straight up, but I'm sure it can be done based on the deals people are posting on here.
