BTW, question to Rajwany550S -> why would you spend somebody else's money: quote... "if u r haggling over 2 or 3 percent. its out of your league. like they say if you must ask how much, u probably cant afford it". I hope you are NOT his financial advisor. I would fire you on the spot.[/QUOTE]

now u r making decisions for him. any ways i stand by what i wrote, it is my opinion and if u dont like it then

It isn't on their website yet, but given that March S sales were down over 30% from the prior year, if it isn't lower than 3.9% in April, it will be by June, imo.

Oh my! That is what my wife paid for her 2008 C350 Saks 5th Avenue edition!!! Wish we had waited now. These falling prices are very depressing.

I'm still willing to top the dealer's bid, if I like your friend's car/options. The car in Maine is RWD whereas I really want 4matic; plus ME is quite a distance for me.

I did see a new 08 S550 in the Kansas City Star a couple weeks ago for 14K off. Which is amazing for a 08! Don't know if it was good for one car or all.

Very interesting. Maybe by summer I'll be able to buy at $16-18k off, with 1.9% financing to boot.

the maine car for 45k seems to be a scam. answer i got abouot car.

I apologize for delay.
The car is in great condition, no accidents, clear title. The vehicle was never crashed, abused or raced. I always garaged it and serviced it, kept very good care of it. The car drives and looks brand new and has an accident free history.
The reason why I am selling so cheap involves my job. I am an architect and I was requested to work on a big project in Germany. Since I am planning on moving here for good I will need another car. I have already ordered a new one.
I left the car in the US at the shipping company. You will receive all the documents of the car (owner's manuals, keys, clear title, bill of sale) in order to register the car under your name. The shipping fees have already been paid.
The price is $45,000 (including shipping and insurance charges). The sale is as real as it can be. Since the transaction worths a lot of money I suggest to make the deal only through eBay escrow account, which is to everyone benefit. If you're not familiar with the neutral third party, it works like this. After the transaction is started, you are invited to make a deposit in a neutral escrow account which eBay controls. I got the same email. Word for word. I also reached the same conclusion, "if it sounds to good to be true it probably is". Buyer beware.

My local dealer has now offered 10K off on P2 with sports package. This is now fun since I feel like I'm playing with house money. Trying for 12-15K off now, then will pull the trigger.

It might or might not be a scam, and just because he's talking about ebay's escrow service doesn't automatically make it one. Just go to ebay.com, click on help, and then type in 'escrow'.

BTW, I saw a post on a competing board claiming that 2007 S550s are going for 45-50k at wholesale auctions.

Interestingly, even though he says he is going to be using ebay's escrow service, the car isn't listed on ebay itself. That's a bit suspicious so I am now leaning toward your conclusion that the guy is a scamster.

Guys,
especially in this forum we have to protect each other. Caveat Emptor. It's off-shoot of "Nigerian Letter". I've got an email from my friend joking about the same scam (VW involved). You WILL loose money on this one.

This whole discussion has opened my eyes to the possibility of buying a used S550. If it is true that they are going for 45-50K at auction, it makes sense to keep an eye out for a good sale by a private seller, since the savings is potentially so great as compared to even what I think will be available new in the summer.

$45k for a 2007 S550 is possible at auction if it had around 80k miles or so IMO.

By the summer BMW dealers will be taking orders for the new 7. The S depreciating will accelerate in a big way! Watch out below!

The aim for me would be a private sale, guided by Gellie's friend's experience, $44k from a dealer for a "07 s550 which is pretty loaded with 11k miles". If I can find a private seller like that, and offer 10% more than the dealer, everyone comes away happy (except the dealer!)

the reason the price for the trade was so low was the dealer was discounting the new car deeply, s550's are going for 60k plus wholesale. they were lowballing the trade. finding one for 45 is not going to happen that easy. they are relying on gellie's friend not checking on a local resale value.

Thanks for the info. Assuming those are actual whoesale auction transaction prices (as opposed to some sort of asking price, or retail price), then I'm back to waiting for the deals to get better on new 08s.

Cars at a shipping company... Owner has moved out of the country... No VIN provided.... unbelievable price.... transaction to be done through an ebay escrow account....

Why didn't he just sell it back to the dealer if he was willing to take that price?

If you buy this one and register it, you may not keep it for very long.

Anyone missing a 2007 S550 with about 13,000 miles on it?

It won't affect me as I plan to keep my car but the stealerships will suffer because they shoot themselves in the foot by encouraging this depreciating activity.

It's kind of like massive selling of a stock with the insiders causing the problem in the first place.

This is what is so proposterous! Actually funny.

I'm surprised people here are actually chasing this.
