You can have your S Class transmission "synchronized" for smoother shifting between 1st/2nd and 2nd/3rd. Compliments of your warranty (within the first 20,000km. (12,000 mile) "adjustment period.
I did this for my S 600 and would imagine all 600's could benefit from this, and perhaps S550's but I don't know about the 550's since they're 7spd.
You keeners may know about that one.
Anyway, after a start up, my car would have a little jerk between 1st and 2nd and lately it gave off a little chirp/squeak/squeal. That can't be right.
Fan belt is tight so the road tester/mercedes mechanic/head honco dude took it for a ride, and of course it was normal. Nonetheless, he said let's do the sync. thing and so they take a computer in the car and somehow get the rpms and speed just so and the computer synchronizes the car.
Seems to be smoother shifts and less noticable changes from 1st to 2nd to 3rd. ( I think). Will have to drive it a while to be sure.
So there's a freebee for ya...

You described the sound to a tee. Had this done over a year ago and it fixed it. Are the 2008s still coming from the factory this way?? Can't believe they would still be programming them with this problem.
