Here's a link to some pics I posted when we first got our car. You can see the same headrests in the gray interior.

Thanks for posting the pics. That clears it up. I guess the 600 has multifunction electronic head rests that extend and fold... unlike the 550 which only has a manual extension. Bummer!
Here are pics of my head rests - the 2nd one is with the head rest extended.

They are not electronic, except for the power up and down, which I think the 550 has as well. The difference is the cushioning and the "wings" that pull out to cradle your head. The headrests are probably the most comfortable automobile headrests I have seen.

Yes, the 550's up/down functionality is power.
BTW, I didn't notice any extra wood trim in the 600's interior other than the key pad cover....

One quality of the S600 which does not come out well in pictures is the visual contrast between the excellent leather covering the dash and doors, the various wood insets, and the all metal/aluminum controls. Add in the wonderfully plush alcantara and the interior looks very classy. There is very little plastic visible - just the surrounds to the outboard air vents, each doors control buttons area, and inside the instrument cluster. The general ambience is quite a step above the S550/63. (As it should be for the price!)

Isn't there a driver's side override button to tone down the the intoxication level your kids are getting from fiddling with the audio buttons at the back?

(It's worse - the right hand rear passenger seat has a button that allows you to control/move the front passenger seat)

I've never had to use it for kids, but I did have "duelling IBM Vice Presidents" messing with front seat and had to cut them off.

In the the UK the headrests in the 600 can be ordered for the 550 as optional extras and are called Comfort headrests £ 200.00 Front/£200.00 Rear.

in the UK you can also get a passion leather option that covers most of the car in leather. Also, I am pretty sure that they get alcantara headliner as a stand alone option.
They also pay a lot more for a S class than we do in the US!!!
P.S.> Whoover: What is your avatar? I have been trying to figure out for a while now and given up.

There goes my belief that I was always eating some unadulterated wholesome organic USDA prime stuff
So do I! At least once a week.... sometimes 2-3 times a week.
So.....have your ordered the "real Wasabia japonica"? How different is it?
Sake toro all the way

I guess we're pretty OT, but I'm a total Japanese food nut. Like I cook (or not) Japanese three or four times a week. I take it very seriously. I go to Japan every few years to buy knives, for instance. It's an addiction. I guess it comes from growing up eating lousy Jewish mother cooking.

It's pretty different. Perhaps not night-and-day at first because wasabi and horseradish have similar "heat" profiles. Wasabi is a bit milder, but that aspect is similar. But horseradish (commercial "wasabi") is very one-dimensional compared to freshly grated real wasabi. In addition to the blast-up-the-nose, wasabi has a wide range of sweet flavors beneath the heat. I descibe it as "vanilla-like," but the Japanese just say it's "amai" (sweet). When you get used to the flavor profile, the imitation stuff tastes very crude. After a while, it does become night-and-day.

I get roots locally at a Japanese market, and have the sharkskin grater so I haved used the real stuff for a few years. (A root lasts about 2 weeks if wrapped in a moist towel in the refrigerator, so it's not a total budget breaker.)

Have you tried any of that powdered REAL wasabi root that was on that nibble website that you posted? I'm thinking that's the closest I'll get to tasting the real root...
If you're ever in Austin, Musashino's on me. Or if you want fancier stuff, Uchi's fine too

Does the S600 sit lower than the S550 (w/AMG sport package) or do these pictures just seem illusionary?
S 600:

S 550:
![](http://www.mbusa.com/media/images/byo/popups/2008/S550V/p7006.jpg)
Also, I noticed another thing with my neighbor's 2007 S600: The back of the head rest of the front seats looks a lot beefier - there is a lot more meat on that back than on mine (which now looks a little frail)
Anyone who owns an S600 care to elaborate on these 2 items?

In both 08 and 09, and should be for 07 too, but not sure about 07.
