Hey I just an 07 S550 and im new to the board but ive been reading about people playing DVD's while parked. My question is the DVD player a seperate dealer/aftermarket option or what? I popped a dvd in the regular six-disc changer in the lower dash and its looking for audio and I know why but how do I get the DVD player is my question. Is it a hack or optional equipment?

Euro cars have played DVDs from day one, if I remember right, US cars do that also after the Comand SW update. DVD movies are played from the DVD changer (or DVD player on a car that does not have a DVD changer).
I'd suggest searching for more info from earlier posts about the Comand update and agree an appointment with your service shop for the update.

No, the DVD player is not an aftermarket device. You already have it inclusive of the same slots as for the CDs. Keep in mind, you have to get the video feature flashed into your telematics/comand system provided by your local MB dealer. This upgrades it to the 2008 specifications. After that is done, you can only hear the DVD audio as you drive, however, you can watch the video while the car is in Park AND with the emergency brake activated.
If your passengers desire to watch the DVD as you drive (keeping your eyes on the road at all times as the driver), you can buy an aftermarket module (called a VIM for video-in-motion) from midcityengineering in the Chicago area that will allow for that.
