MBUSA increases incentives on 08 S550

For December MB has increased the dealer incentive to $12K from $10K. This should make $25k off MSRP a fully loaded 08 a possibility.

Some dealers can take 20% off MSRP.

Strategy for acquiring MY08 S-Class (S63, S600, 4matic, S550) propose MSRP minus 12.25% employee discount “match” minus $12000 dealer marketing incentive.

I've seen 20k off, but 25k would still be tough on a black or silver car. Maybe on a odd color car that might be difficult to sell though. Next march 25k may be the incentive.

I got almost $23K off on a silver car about 45 days ago. There was a $10K incentive then.

I don't think my dealership will be anywhere near this generous. You guys are lucky to get these discounts. The problem is, the trade-ins will get hammered so the discounts are a wash in a trade-in situation.

However, if you're going into the deal with no baggage, you can probably get a deal of a lifetime.

Has anyone recently bought a 600 or 65? If so, what kind of deals did anyone get? We rarely hear of anyone speaking of S600+ deals on the forum. I paid pretty much MSRP on mine 2 years ago. However, on my deal , I had to unload a Phaeton and it took a beating. I was lucky just to get out of it as good as I did. The Phaetons are still taking a bad beating. Some V8 Phaetons are going for $15K just 4 years old. They were $70K + new.

Go for it. You'll love it. My car is now 2 years old and it still seems like new to me. A terrific car. The V12 is something that will spoil you once you drive it.
I'm so depressed that they are planning on cutting the V12s from the lineup in the future. I really hate this decision.

Yes, not having a trade certainly helps. I had a leased 07 E350 which had 3 months left. MB financial took it back early and waived the $595 turn in fee. So as far as the dealership was concerened I had no trade. I just had to finance the new S550 with MB financial (4.9% for 66 monthsto get the deal. But there was no pre payment penalty or minimum so I only financed $15k which I'll pay off in a couple of months.

Dont be dpressed Mercedes promises that the V8 twin-turbo will be more compact and lighter, adding less weight to the car, producing similar if not better performance with its twin-turbos compared to the V12.

But it is not just about performance... Will the new V8 TT compare with the balanced turbine like smoothness of a V12? Will its power delivery be as linear and continuous through the revs? Will it be as relaxed in its mode of delivery... yet with vast reserves of power immediately on tap?

I am sure MB with its record will produce a good engine... but it has yet to be proven it will be a real substitute.. I suspect that the new V8 TT will be more highly strung with less reserves than the current V12... (Which is really de- tuned in the S600... (compared with a Maybach/S65)

The character of the two engine configurations is different... I am with Trumpet on this..

Chris

V12 vs future V8 Twin Turbos

Chris: I am with you and Trumpet on this 100%. We are at a dusk of an automotive age and we will all miss the V12s when they are gone. Even if gas prices continue at these low levels (or lower) for lack of demand due to our current economic 'recession', the greenies on both sides of the Atlantic will not allow the V12s back once they are discontinued. And gas prices will ultimately go back up again once global demand picks up again in an economic recovery. Mind you, our current Biturbo V12 is one of the most fuel efficient engines ever produced with this kind of power and torque. I get 23 mpg (US) on the highway, which is the same as I got on my BMW 650i and close to the mileage on my thirsty '05 Supercharged Mini Cooper S cabrio. What we will miss of the V12 is the smoothness, the balance, the depth of the torque curve in this wonderful motor! I don't think the V8 TT will ever be the same, even when AMG executes their version. So far, I see polite praise for BMW's new generation of V8TTs in their new 7 model, but nothing that will make us forget the qualities of our biturbo V12s. I (perhaps like some of you who recently purchased a S or CL class 600 or 65) made my decision in part because of a premonition that this V12 era might close to an end. Given our increasingly PC society, we might be living in the last years where one could 'indulge' in a vehicle with this kind of power delivery and torque characteristics. And we might have confirmation of the swan song of the V12s from Mercedes very soon. Saludos, Z356

(I guess we are hi-jacking this thread somewhat)

So true... not only that, but a V8 (TT or not) is so... I have to say it... so ordinary... The S-Class is an extra special flagship car... that at the top of the line should be sized and matched to a special engine.. the luster of which permeates to all S-Class models... Even Hyundai now has a V8!

The current V12TT M275/M285 design has been run on the test bench at up to 900 hp... just an indication of how much untapped reserves are inherent in the design... of course far more than any of MB's production transmissions can take.

Anyway to the poster thinking of an S600/65... do it! The engine is a treat that appears about to be taken away... There is nothing else like it.

Chris
