I'm curious. I was looking at a S550 and I see that there's no FRONT license plate on the car. and to what i know, FRONT license plate is still required in State of WA. So...what's wrong with this picture NO FRONT LICENSE PLATE?

 

Not having a front plate is a registion violation and breaking a state law which is punishable by a hefty fine , in the United States, 19 states do not require an official front license plate, these states being Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia; U.S. territories Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Guam also do not require an official front license plate. In Nevada, front plates are optional if the vehicle was not designed for a front plate and the manufacturer did not provide an add-on bracket or other means of displaying the front plate

 

i know i know. i'm in the state of WA which does REQUIRE front license plate. however....I don't see any places where I can put the front license plate though. can anybody that have S550 clarify on this matter?

 

I think you need to ask your dealership to give you the front licenseplate bracket. Normally they will drill the holes and install it for you too.

 

When i purchased my new '08 S550 it has a front plate adapter kit with the car.Its up to the customer to have the dealer put it on if thats what you want.I live in Iowa and it requires a front plate but i didnt put it on and so far i havent been stopped.I also drive a Dodge Viper that doesnt have a front plate but i have been stopped 3 times for not having a front plate.I believe they just wanted to look at the car and needed an excuse to stop me.I say leave it off........pay the fine,no big deal.

well, i am looking to buy a S550 to replace my stolen C300. but the S550 I looked at ---> no FRONT license plate. so...that's why i ask now!

 

they have, so now go and buy the S550

I wouldnt worry about the front Licence plate thing. I live in NYS where they pull people over for anything and all 3 of my Mercedes dont have them. I have never had one on any Mercedes I have ever owned and have been driving them since 1980.

 

Usually the bracket is in the trunk in the spare tire storage area. That's where mine was anyway. Plates are required in CA, but I never put mine on; looks ugly.

 

I live in SoCal and none of my cars have them ...In fact, I see quite a few cars every now and then w/o front plates.

 

When I first picked up my car I found a clip on front license plate in the trunk. It works fine - no holes need to be drilled and you can take it on and off if you really want. Did no one else get one of these?

okie dokie. i just got 2007 S550, with fully loaded - bluetooth, navigation, rearview camera, Tele-Aid (i activated this time), Distronic, sunroof, 6 disc changer.

it has 22K on it (was a lease car), silver on silver. i paid $53K - taxes included, with one year prepaid of Tele-Aid.

and yeah, the dealer will install the bracket and its license plate on the front for me tomorrow.

Front plates are required in Massachusetts. I have not installed them on any of my cars since 1982. Been stopped twice; each time getting only a warning.

 

Nope, and I would love to know where you got the clips. Are they for a W203 c class?

 

I don't think so. It appears custom designed to fit the front bumper/lower air dam of the S550/S600. (Not the AMG's) For example one part clips into that vertical front "bar" of the standard S-Class lower bumper. I literally found it in the trunk of my car when my car was delivered.

At first I thought it was a piece of spare plastic left over from preparing the car for delivery when just off the boat, but then I realized that it was a clip on license plate holder. I could photograph it if interested.

I am interested actually, and maybe useful to ask a dealer if they have something similar for other models. I am not interested in drilling a couple of holes, and the tow hitch application from gominigo makes the front look unattractive IMHO.

I live in SoCal and I got a parking ticket where the meter maid decided to fine me for it. However I paid the ticket and they told me to that they would return the fine if I got fix the plate and got it signed off by law enforcement......somethings I'd rather pay for than fix it and drill holes in my car : )

 

Here you go. One clip on license plate - no drill holes in your bumper needed! I just clip the central "forked tongue" around the central vertical bar in the lower grill and the two side clips snap on either side underneath the lower (silver colored) horizontal bar. 13,000 miles and it has not fallen off yet!

On the back there are what look like two catalogue or part numbers:

A-221-885-0481 and DN-013778

I notice you are in San Francisco. My car was delivered by MB Oakland which is the same company as MB SF I believe. Maybe they know what this part is?
