We updated results for the W221 S-Class based on owner experiences through March 31, 2011. With a reported repair frequency of 83 repair trips per 100 cars per year, the 2007 is now about average.

This is based on a small sample size, so the result is not precise. The reported repair frequency has been decreasing as we receive data on more cars.

We'll have further updated in August and November. With more participants, we could provide more precise results and cover more model years.

We've updated our reliability stats for the W221 S-Class based on owner experiences through September 30, 2011. With a reported repair frequency of 81 repair trips per 100 cars per year, the 2007 remains about average.

We'll have further updated later this month and in May. With the update we didn't have quite enough participants to provide a full result. With more participants, we could provide more precise results and cover more model years.

Our reliability stats for the S-Class now include owner experiences through March 31, 2014, making them nearly a year ahead of other sources.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2007 S-Class: 52, low, small sample size

Thank you, once again, everyone who has been helping. With more participants, we could provide full stats on all model years. Next update in August.

We've updated our reliability stats for the S-Class to include owner experiences through September 30, 2014.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2007 S-Class: 89, high, very small sample size

Variation over the last few quarters could easily be due to the sample size. Not enough owners signed up for other model years--though I'd love to cover them.

Since 2007 was the first year for the US, I would like to see the 2008-2013 stats as well. Looking only at the first year of a new model is not a very meaningful stat for reliability. Do you have the stats for the rest of the W221 years?

I wish we did. Not enough owners signed up to participate. Not really enough for the 2007, either, hence the sample size disclaimer. It's far harder to get enough participants for the S than for the C and E. Partly because they sell far fewer of the S.

Our reliability stats for the S-Class now include owner experiences through March 31, 2015. (Others are nearly a year behind.)

In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year ("low" is best):

2007 S-Class: 60, moderate, very small sample size

No stat for a model year? Then we very much need more participants for it. Same for those with small sample size notes. Next updates in August and November.

Our reliability stats for the S-Class now cover the year ending June 30, 2015. Unfortunately, as in the past we only have a rough stat for the 2007. In terms of repair trips per 100 cars:

2007 S-Class: 36, low, very small sample size

This stat seems too good to be accurate, so it's likely an effect of the small sample size.

We've updated our reliability stats for the S-Class to include owner experiences through September 30, 2015. Once again we only have a stat for the 2007. It's a low 39 repair trips per 100 cars, good for a 2007, but based on a very small sample size.

May we have the number of reporting owners? Low could be 10000, compared to overall quantity of owners.

10,000 would be an extremely large sample size, far larger than anyone save Mercedes (through warranty claims) has ever had for the 2007 S-Class, and far larger than is necessary unless you're studying rare problems.

We mark a sample size small if under 25, and very small if between 10 and 15. I post nothing at all under ten. We can provide usefully precise stats with 25 responses, but only a broad indicator at best at the current levels. The key thing to realize is that we've put a process in place to yield better, more up-to-date information than anything else out there. If enough owners participate, as they do for many other models, we'll have the information.
