Looks like the S600 has a serious competitor...

I find the looks pretty bland personally, and I was disappointed with the build quality of the 7-series I sat in a few months back, but I am sure this will be a great car to drive.
If MB really has cancelled the new M295 engine as was leaked a few months back then someone should be fired... (Along with the dorks at AMG stating the "HP wars are over" while BMW and Audi keep piling on the HP)
Still the 2010 S600 looks like it will hold its own in the features department though there is no word the current V12 510 hp engine performance has been raised. (Which it easily can given it is exactly the same engine as in the 550 hp Maybach)
One thing I will credit BMW... (And Audi) They do a great job at providing great marketing images and data about their top engines... MB is pathetic in this department... There is practically zero imagery and information out there about the current (great) M275/M285 engine of this caliber...

But if you want to take "pathetic" one step further, try going to www.mercedes-amg.com/usa (emphasis on the word "try"). It's an absolute disgrace to such a fine name in performance automotive engineering.
Even so, it's quite funny to see all high end autos copying Lexus with the integrated tail pipe design. While it looks great for the most part, it does look a little odd on some - like this 760i... and even some shots of the 2010 S.

Not sure what the weight of the 760Li is.. they are rating its 0-60 at 4.6 seconds... 1 second or so slightly slower than the S600 which has higher torque... but its probably a wash in real traffic conditions.

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
600 tq kills Bent in tq nos. (612 vs ~550) and delivery (lots of cars w/high quoted tq are worthless in real-world mid-range accel b/c of turbo lag)
cjf, really should do a back-to-back test drive on 280 fwy on Peninsula....perhaps world's best tq stress test...suspect you'd be rather impressed w/600's relative tq deliv; only car in world w/better overall tq deliv is 65, not 599 or GT2, let alone a silly VW for rapper wannabes (the other VW w/excellent tq is Veyron but it has laughable safety w/no side or head airbag systems)
BTW, amusing how inept is BMW engineering....they've never engineered competent brakes, even on M5 (kinda want superb brakes when have lots of hp/tq); has unsolved turbo lag issues (even on 750 vs 550); 750 weighs about 200 lbs more than 550; has a 2 gall smaller fuel tank (really annoying for urban commuting where all these cars get <12MPG); still has Parktronic bulletholes (now at least 3+ yrs behind MB DistPlus tech); BMWs aren't known for competent climate control systems; and BMW has never shown reassuring active/passive safety engineering...or reliability w/advanced tech motors, gearboxes or computer networks
There are many reasons BMW struggles to ever sell $100K+ cars....

If you look around though my galleries you'll find some other interesting stuff in there.
Take a look at my Brabus Misc gallery: http://photo.thegetlucky.com/p716732908
I'm a big fan of the Brabus 6.3S Biturbo M275 variant.
760li with 544 hp is pretty insane; i wonder what the 09 B7 will be pushing in regards to HP/TQ.
In early reviews; the 7er has been beating the w221 and it is not crazy for a journalist to say the benz handles like a boat while the 7er handles more like a jet.
anywho; in anyones eyes, these are two of the finest sedans in the world.

I will always consider beemer as a wannabe MB, kind of poor man's choice, much cheeper, taking (even) under consideration those free maitanance services. Some people will always look for a deal or bargain-basement prices. Guess what...there is no free lunch afterall. You always get what you paid for.
Quite few times I forced myself to like it. Yes I like it, 3 series that is.
In my eyes BMW excells in small frame (3 series), that would be for my son's car (in the future).
MB clearly excells, especially in V12/AMG - in large frame S class.
Bentley, on the other hand is comparable to MB. Very good marketing versus very good engineering.
Try to compare BMW to Bentley, hold your breath, don't laugh...
