NEW V-12
Seems a while ago there was a thread about the V-12 being discontinued from MB. Looks like it will continue. Information is limited but here is a Link to a couple paragraphs.

It would seem to me that the motor would need to be more efficient while power increases to the 550 -600hp range???

Here's a recent quote from AMG’s head of engine and powertrain development, Friedrich Eichler.
"A lot of our customers like V8 and V12 engines, but it’s not necessary to use all the cylinders all the time. We’re working on cylinder deactivation and on an engine with this technology; maybe we’ll have completed this in two years’ time.”

PS. He also mentions it towards the end of this brief video.

With the experiance of existing V12TT, we could and should expect a totally new ball game

Interesting to see that the engine is sourced/built by FORD!!
Wow - and to think that the U.S auto industry is in such dire straits.....
I guess we can build great engines after all

Good news
Let's hope they keep that cylinder deactivation nonsense over in EU; such a waste of valuable R&D time/effort on 600+hp V12s, as well as needless complications and poss bugs
Key will be level of tq and its seamless delivery; would hope tq will be at least 738lb-ft but motor is 250lb lighter than current 65 motor and gearbox has downshift blips
Panamera Turbo has start/stop feature that P is putting on EU (but not US) versions
Funny that, in EU, gvts and affluent buyers are more obsessed w/silly MPG and emissions on 500+hp, $200K+ cars driven on derestricted ABs at 100++MPH cruise...the hypocrisy is laughable

"The petrol engine designed for the research car was derived from a standard V8 powerplant with a displacement of 3.8 liters. What made the modified engine so special was its fuel consumption, which was significantly lower at partial throttle. The key to achieving this was an automatic cylinder shut-off system that temporarily shut down four of the eight combustion chambers whenever the extra power was surplus to requirements. The fact is that four cylinders operating at full load consume less fuel than twice as many cylinders operating at partial load, resulting in the fuel consumption figure for the Euromix driving cycle (urban, 90 km/h and 120 km/h) being reduced to just 9.3 liters per 100 kilometers."

They have to save money somehow
Maybe after a while they will afford MB's V12?
Just wondering if and when Mercedes will add turbos to it.

We have to remember, that almost whole EU is turning socialistic...
They can't think straight anymore.
Trumpet,
Relax, it's just Rapide

You misunderstood bro, the current 6.0L V12 in the Aston Martins are actually Ford derived engines, the article states that Aston Martin might use a new upgraded V12 built by MB most likely in their Rapide or in a new model. That V12 will be 100% MB, it is up to Aston Martin if they want to keep using their Ford derived V12 or also have the option of an MB V12 for their cars.
