Problem fueling up??

2007 S550 here. When I first got my car (new), I had no problems fueling up. Now, and for the past... oh, I'd say year... everytime I gas up, the gas pump clicks off well before the car is full. Most of the time, it's only around 1/2 full.

I can adjust the angle of the nozzle, the amount it's pushed in, and the flow speed of the fuel. Makes no difference. Gassed up at numerous stations using various pumps. Nothing. So I'm wondering: Is there something that can get dislodged in the tank area that can affect this? I've gassed up other cars, and I don't have a problem with any other car except mine.

Oh, I'm in California. I don't know how the rest of the nation is, but our gas pumps have a fuel recapture thingie like an accordion. Sample picture below.

Thanks for your advice!

*bump*

(sorry for the bump, bbut my warranty is about to expire. I'd love some insight out there if there's any to be had.)

I had the same issue with my 750Li, I had to take it to the dealership. Its not something that you can take care of without taking it in.

Mine does this too. In fact at the moment two of my vehicles are doing this. I have a '07 Hemi Ram Pickup (for towing a race trailer) and Dodge has reported the same condition. Dodge's technical service bulletin says that the vent in the neck is faulty and it would require a new tank. I have not pursued the MB issue but I would bet it could be a similar fault with the tank vent system. Please keep us informed if you pursue this.

I remember something similar to this happened on a car a few years back and the vent thing you're talking about had leaves and other crud stuck in it causing this problem.

The best or nothing
I had this problem once, not sure what caused it, I simply held the gun at a minimum stream and when it turned off started again - about 50x .. Never happened since then.

Dodge and Mercedes were at one time both Chrysler companies, coincidence?

Yeah, ended up being some fuel flow thingie that got loose inside, and they replaced it. Now I can gas up again, happily!

Thanks.

Fueling

I'm just the opposite. No matter what pump I go to, the pumps don't shut off right away. I've always caught it before it spills too much but still... very annoying. Thought it was a particular pump I always use at the corner station but it has happened at other stations too. Could that also be a vent problem?

I took mine back to dealer. was out of warrante and they wanted 900.00 to replace some filters in the filler system. Mercedes paid for the parts after I raised a runkus but I had to pay the labor of 200.00 . Here is a link on this forum to many others with the problem. https://mbworld.org/forums/new-s-cla...g-up-s550.html
