Retrofit 2010 Tail lights And Headlights on 07-09 S Class?

Has anybody tried retrofitting the 2010 s class style headlights and tail lights on their first gen w221?

No but I did look up the prices today there were not too bad about 3k for the headlights and 1k for the tail lights. The only issue I thought there might be is the whole front bumper assembly is different not really sure if the led part takes up more space than the old ones do. I also noticed a few other parts that had 2010 codes on it so I am interested in see what the differences are. I guess I could actually look at the car lol. I noticed the side markers are different and the license plate lamps are different. I ordered a set I am wondering if they are the LED type as well.

Did you have a look at the wiring too and the price involved when trying to match the two?

No I didn't check the wiring when I first thought about it I didn't think they would be different. I did look right now and it does show a different body mounted wiring harness though. I am not totally sure what the differences are, but they could very well be something different because of those lights. This is looking like it will be a little more in dept than I will be able to figure out on my own without ordering every part new and old and matching them all up. I was also told by a tech everything on the 221 has to be coded online with the star even headlights. So I am also guessing it could be rejected for being the incorrect part for the vehicle. I have had a few inquiries on these, but nothing substantial to warrant more in dept investigation on how to do this. I would have to order about 10k in parts to be able to check them all out :O just for the electrical then we have the issue with proper fitment and software version coding/bulb out warnings heh. Maybe MBenNL might know some of the differences in the electrical.

I saw that as well. I have a customer that is going to purchase them even though I told him I do not think they will work. I have a feeling they will end up going overseas though, but hopefully I can get some incite from his attempt. I already ordered the parts so maybe I can snap some pics and see if anyone else can look at theirs and see if they are the same connection. Actually I might have some regular ones in stock since our body shop probably goes through a lot of these items. I will let you know.

I have one question. Why would you do it? The car will still be what it is.

they look better why not ? People have been updating parts on their vehicles all the time on every model. It's not like he is making the car out to be something that it is not. It's still an S550. I want to put LED tail lights on my car as well and they are not a factory option. Does that mean I am making it out to be something that it is not? That's a silly outlook on things for anyone wanting to enhance the look of their vehicles. It's not like he's slapping S65' badges on his car.

unfortunately the new style ones do have different connections and the lights are missing the xenon control units so there will be those to factor into the cost and at least a wiring harness ;(

I asked my MB dealer (Switzerland) to quote a price for a complete upgrade (front and back). Estimated cost: US$ 10K (material and labor)

The only person I'd allow to do this upgrade would be MBenzNL (and I'm *NOT* considering this, as I think the 2010 tail lights no longer represent a unique design). The dealer is essentially telling you they don't care for your business. 10K is just stupid.

Assuming they would have to change not only the lights but also SAMs, possibly something else as a chain reaction, $10k may not be enough.

Why not change the amber front marker lights to clear? It looks way better imo. The cost is minimal and gives a nice effect.
Also, while you're on the subject of upgrades, it's also nice to change the cd cover, ashtray and cupholder covers to wood. It matches right up to the surrounding wood (according to your VIN).
Too bad you can't change to those new front lower lights....

I just bought the taillights from Sonicms. They are just figuring out how to ship them to me. I seriously doubt the taillights will be a big issue. It will only be 3 connectors if anything - reverse, brake and hard brake. How hard can it be?

Oh no, I better not just jinx myself, lol.

I cannot find any changes on the rear lights wiring diagram. Would be odd if the plugs were changed in this case. In any case as you say, should not be too difficult to have those installed.

I have pictures of both new and old. I took a quick look at the tails and they look to have the same type of connection, but I didn't count the prongs. I was just going to look at the pics, but my card reader at work broke so I will post them when I get home. I wish people would stop calling me trying to trick me into thinking they have a 2010 that some how got put in a trash compactor accident and need these parts ha. I know what they want and are trying and they don't need to mislead the dealer. I am sure they don't want to end up with 4k of worthless parts.

Well here are the pictures. It looks like the tail lights might work, but for the headlights I am not really sure what would have to be done to get it to work.

I am considering doing this mod. Would you be kind enough to answer a few questions?

Was the install plug-n-play?
Did you resolve the problem with the dash board notification?
How much were the parts?
Pictures????
