PCMCIA Slot

Is there a link to the specs? I have conflicting info for an 07, and an 07 that was upgraded to a late 08 software

such as max amount of files
how all the files have to be
etc..

Thanks

Have you looked at the user manual? I think mine explains this. And the amendment that you should get with the SW update does not mention any changes.

I down loaded the user manual for the comand off startek and there really is no mention of the PCMCIA or its capabilities

unless they are referencing the MP3 section before it.

I thought there was a limit on the file size though

Which manual did you download? The W221 Comand is included in the basic car manual, there is no separate Comand manual.

I'm not aware of any file size limits. There are limits for the maximum number of files, the maximum number of nested folders and the maximum number of files per one folder. And the MP3 coding parameters have certain restrictions that are no issue in practise.

what I've found is as the number of files (folders also) grows it takes longer for the MP3's to become active on start-up - guess it has to read the data

I believe it is the directory and title data. A faster card makes this time shorter although if you don't swap cards often, then a slow card is fine.

you can download the vehicles manual in pdf form on startek. I don't have the car with me to check the manual.

Why use the PCMCIA slot when you can pop a data DVD in and have over 4 gigs of music?

A DL DVD would hold 8.5 gigabytes. But the memory card is a lot faster and it does not have the DVD drive noise.

A memory card can handle more data than the DVD but the car anyway is limited to some 8 gigabytes per memory card.

A lot more convenient to store and update music to a memory card compared to burning DL DVDs.
