Thinking About Selling The S550 For A CLS550 Is This A Good Idea ?
I owned my S550 for about 4 months now. I kinda getting board and wanting something more sporty. My friend has a CLS550 and Im thinking about downgrading and purchasing one. What are S550 owners opinions on this ?

Very bad idea. The CLS is an old generation model (w211 underpinnings) technology and seats only 4. Definitely a downgrade and hardly that sporty either.

Maybe you are one of those few who don't see the obvious difference?

I test drove the CLS550 and a CLS55 AMG today. I like the CLS-Class better than the S550. So I decided I will downgrade because the CLS is much more sportier and more gorgeous than the S-Class I dont even know why I even bought an S-Class to begin with that was a crazy move. So I got the S550 for sale now and I got 3 calls for Saturday. For the CLS-Class I might buy an 06 CLS55 over the 08 CLS550 Sport. But undecided. Please give me some good advice on how should I proceed. The only thing is that the 08 CLS550 is newer than the CLS55. I dont know which route to go either newer or older.

Well the thing is that the S550 is not a sporty car as the CLS-Class in general is very sophisticated, classy, sporty, and more beautiful than the S-Class. The CLS is gorgeous. I like the coupe lines it provide. I also test drove an CL550 as well but I preferred the CLS over the S-Class and CL-Class. I think the CLS-Class is the best Mercedes Benz Sedan period. I dont know what I was thinking even buying an S-Class to begin with.

Im 22 but I bought the S550 bc people kept saying get the big body Benz if you wanna be a baller. But however my buddy showed me his CLS550 Sport and that thing is gorgeous and much better than my S550 Sport. Everywhere we went people kept checking out the CLS and were amazed how good it looked. He has a white CLS and my S550 is silver. Since he has the CLS550 Im thinking of going with the CLS55 only thing is the 08 CLS550 I checked out and the 06 CLS55 are around the same price.

If you have your mind set on CLS, go for it. It is definitely a downgrade, but depends upon your situation. Though CLS may be more appealing in looks, it is difficult to get in and out of the car due to low roof line, especially in the back. Also, it seats only two in the rear seats. Passenger legroom is also much less than S class. CLS is based on E-class chasis. The power train is the same in the two cars. Recently in September, I assumed a lease on a 08 CLS 550, but I do not have to carry a family in the car, so rear seats and space are immaterial. Since you are young, I assume you drive by yourself, so passenger space should not be a factor for you.
Financially, wouldn't you be losing a lot of money in selling S 550 after 4 months? If you must go to CLS, have you considered assuming someone's remaining lease terms on a CLS. That way, if you really like the car, you can buy it at the end of lease term. Assuming a lease may take around two months to finalize the process, but may be an alternative for you.
I agree with Rajwani. In the end it is your choice and your money.

One other point. There will be a new generation (w212 based) CLS shortly so the current body style will date more quickly after that.

Hell, why stop with the CLS, I'd say go directly to a C230 compressor!
CLS model was played out about 3 years ago. It was cool for the first few years.

CLS was a great headturner, but I agree with the others...it is already starting to look quite dated. However, I see a million of them in south FL so to me it is as common as a Camry driving by.
But, if the car makes you more happy than driving an S class, go for it. After having an E55/S55/CL500/CL600 etc.. I downgraded to an 08 Infiniti G35 and it is one of the most fun cars I've ever owned. Why? It doesn't feel weighed down and just loves abuse!
Go with whatever makes you smile and don't worry about what your friends think!!

If you want to show your age and position to your friends and don't need the room of a larger car, get a Porsche Carrera... Now, that's a sport car with an established pedigree not expected to be dated any time soon.
Good luck on your choice. JV![drive](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/driving.gif)

Keep your S550 or upgrade to S63 AMG
CLS is not comfort to get in and out and very hard to see out-side.
The windows are very small so the view is very limited.
S class is much better build and safer car. If you want something more sporty, go for S63 because CLS550 is not really much faster than your S550.

I have a S550 & a CLS550. The CLS550 is a great car, but the S550 is a superior automobile in terms of comfort & tech......by a long way.

Come on guys...the cls is definately more sporty no question about it. It is also less luxurious and a good bit less expensive. Hes 23 I dont think getting into the car is going to be a problem anytime soon. I dont own either so like to think I am not biased. If you want sporty with the same luxury level as the s get an sl or a cl.
