Thinking About Flipping The Current Color of my Car
I just wanted to get you guys opinion on this car color, I'm thinking about completely changing the color of my car. The color I thinking about changing it to is the new 2010 Designo color Barolo Red. It's going to cost a couple thousand to do it, but I strongly considering it. I've attached the PDF of the color for you guys to see.

looks tight - better off just getting the real thing imo...
too much wasted money and the curb appeal will be off with the lack of facelift... jmo

I'm sure that its going to cost more than 2k (couple thousand was used loosely), each panel cost $500.00 to paint if I was just repainting the same color. So I'm sure that once you calculate the quarter panels, hood, trunk, door jams, and trims, I'm sure that it would be around 5000 to 6000 (the price of a set of new wheels). So by far not Macco and the shop I'm planning on using is a certified MB body and paint shop. All the do are high-end European vehicles using OEM paints.

Don't do it, man - it's going to ruin the car! It will be obvious that the car was repainted as soon as you open the hood. Also, I seriously question the 6k number for a full paint job on a S550 - they must be cutting corners somewhere, some panels aren't being removed - etc. There are many of hours in disassembly/assembly, plus are they going to be able to provide the same quality clear like your factory nano clear?
I also would be worried about quality of assembly - not all shops can do it, even if they claim to be MB Certified.

Don't do it.....
First of all - almost no any shop will do it the same way like original...
Second - you will regret it when you'd like to sell it. people don't like it.
Trade in value ? -- forget it.....dealer will offer you only smile..and no money )

Thank's, I have no plans on trading it in especially to the steelership. I don't tend to do trade in when I purchase a new vehicle and I don't lease. My main concern is getting quality work that looks good and maintain the value of the car.

I have to agree that no shop would do a like-new job at a sane price. Besides, I think the color is just a bit too extravagant, if you know what I mean; to me, black beats it hands down.

I really like that Barolo red - but your car looks great even now, the way you have it set up.
There was an episode of the show that has West Coast Customs changing an S550 into a 2-door long coupe - if you watch that episode, you'd get a sense what has to happen to the car to get the paint right (minus the sheetmetal mods they were doing to make it a coupe). It would get stripped down to raw body including all glass, and harnesses coming out, plus motor/tranny should get pulled & all engine compartment components so that the engine compartment can be painted. That's a tough gig for any shop to sign up for.

Don't get me wrong I do like the black, but I am entertaining the thought of the change. I definitely appreciate everyone's opinion, because if the consensus is that it will have a negative impact then I will stick to black and use the money elsewhere.

I once had the same scenario with a Cadillac. I got really bored with the color (bronze DTS) and always thought the black ones looked so much better. The stealer wanted 10k to redo the paint and they sorta talked me out of it. Long story short, I sold the car much sooner than I would've and took much more of a loss than the 10k paint job trading cars before I found another I liked!
I say....DO IT!!!

Honestly, you are crazy to do it. If you really like that color that much you should sell yours and find one that color. It's interesting the guy I bought my black on black E350 from bought a Barolo Red one.

I once considered getting a professional paint job on an old 420sel by a reliable body shop. They quoted me $16k to meet manufacturers spec (I forget 11 coats paint, 4 coats gloss)

$6,000 is going to be on the low side. I would think you can easily add another $10,000 to play it safe.

not a chance.
It will run at least 10k, you will take a hit on resale due to the unloved color and repaint, and theres always a chance the body shop doesn't put it all back together perfectly.
I would just sell your car and get a barolo red one.

hmm. I say, if you don't want to buy a new one, and that's something you really want to do, and you have money to do it, then do it. You only live once, might as well be happy.

Thanks guys for everyone's feedback, I've been discussing the various concerns with my wife so we are going to keep the the 07 the same. Since we both only have a year left at our current duty station before heading to Hawaii we're going to look into picking up a 2011 or early production 2012 S600 or S65 Designo while we are there. Since we are going to be stationed overseas well be able to get a good military discount on the purchase price.
Guys, thanks again for all the feedback. Your responses definitely helped me make better decision.

the PDF says its Mystic Red... It's definitely a nice color but I wouldn't do it. I'm with the others, get the vinyl wrap or buy the 2010 model.
