Angry S600 Order Pushed Back Even Further?!?!

Well as most of you know. I have an S600 on order since June 09. I was initially expecting it to be delivered around now but I have been informed that it hasn't even gone into production yet. Which is strange considering that production was supposed to be back in Sep 09.

Anyway to make this short, my dealer is now telling me the production will take place in February of this year and with an estimated April/May delivery.

Is it me or does this sound very strange? A June 09 being delivered April/May 2010?

My car took about the same time but that was a totally different thing (a diesel only became available when I ordered and the sales figures were high at that time). I could understand some delay first for the face lift model but is there any significant change for the S600 engine that would delay the car delivery? The factory would have a lot of open production slots for the car these days.

Any reason why the shop would intentionally delay the order?

Nothing to do with the dealership - all production schedules have been pushed back to cycle through unplanned inventories - resulting in a delayed production of your 600..

Given that my S550 took only two months (from placing the order to actual production), I find it unlikely that an S600 would take that much longer. Given the much reduced dealer production slot allocations for this year, do you suppose they just bumped you for someone else?

I had heard MB was slowing things down but we are just talking about an S600 here. Being in Southern California, almost a year wait seems a bit much for a luxury sedan.

I thought S600's didn't have any available options for the USA besides color?

Correction: S600's have no options EXCEPT the split view screen.... so again why is your car on order?

Kar Don due to the current economic situation. The 600s and 65s are being sold only by orders. I just received an e-mail from the dealer stating the production will commence Febuary 2nd but no information as to when it is arriving just yet.

I doubt they bumped me because I have a deposit already on the order and have ordered it to my specifications exactly. However, that concerns me even more as to why it is taking this long?

Maybe somebody greased the wheel a little or just is better friends with the dealer. Leaving a deposit doesn't really mean jack as they don't cash the check until delivery.

This thread is beginning to make me feel that owning a current model S600/65 is going to be a bit like owning a rare collectible. (Joke - if only!)

If your car is being made it will be a MY10. Production for MY09 has long since ceased and it seems, provided your dealer did their job, that you were bumped from the production line when they began tooling up for MY10. New models like the E coupe and SLS may also have contributed to the delay due to the change up in the assembly lines.

Dealers stopped taking orders for MY09 production somewhere around May of 2009. If the order was placed in June, it was definitely for MY10 production. Except for the dealer pulling something shady, nothing logically explains such a delay for just an S600.

Sounds like an inept dealer

Know several colleagues (multiple-repeat 65 buyers) who had new MY10 S65s and CL65s deliv'd at Autobahn on SF Peninsula and at BH way back in ?Oct09

Many of those same guys are already pestering same dealers for earliest build spots on MY11 S65 Coupe which is prob <6mos away

MY10 is roughly half-over even for S65 or S600

I have to say that almost 1 year from your order does seem a bit odd. The S600 is not a "pull order", but they do limit production. However, I would not think a year is acceptable. If you placed the order in June 2009 for a 2010, then production should have started some time late summer/early fall. I can understand it taking almost 8 weeks to get to you b/c you are on the West coast. I would definitely be asking some serious questions at this point. Which options did you choose? I know Designo options sometimes push back production, but at most it should've been 4 weeks.

Actually, I don't believe there's that much of a delay anymore. My car was here 4 days after the ship unloaded.

I was referring to when it leaves the factory. You are correct in that it usually takes less than a week to get to your dealer once it arrives at the VPC

Then I feel even luckier as it was about 3 weeks between completed production and delivery for me ;-)
