I would also be very interested to hear when the TT V8 was introduced in Europe and how long it was tested for by regular drivers.

The "bleeding edge" technologies obviously come in with the alleged 22% increase in mileage. I don't see BMW do that on their new TT, so it's not like it was tested by other manufacturers before.

Seems like you have a big hat, but no cattle.

Well you should have said that from the start instead of coming up with some nonsense about a/c shutting off at a stoplight in a 100k car. If you don't want it then don't buy it, its that simple. The 2011 S550 won't get the new V8 anyway, and stop/start hasn't even been confirmed for the U.S. market anyway. The 2011 press release doesn't even mention it. Again, I can't say enough, pointless discussion.

What exactly is the issue with Audi?

Seems like you have a big hat, but no cattle.

Seems like to me you're one of those clueless worriers.

Again, what is the new technology? Turbocharging isn't new and it isn't new to Mercedes-Benz. Do you not understand that?

BMW made similar claims about their new turbo V8 back when it was introduced, replacing the previous 4.8L naturally aspirated V8. The gain in fuel economy wasn't 22 percent, but they did make a fuel savings gain claim. Where you have you been?

Mercedes has been making twin-turbo V12s for years. They've also been doing DI for years, again in Europe.

The hilarious part is that you don't even know what the "bleeding edge" technology is that you're worried about. What in the world can you be worried about when don't know any of the details about the engine in question?

What sense does that make? You're worried over something you don't know anything about?

Car companies boast fuel economy gains every time they introduce a new engine, again nothing new.

Now the hardest part for you to grasp: I'm not saying that the new engine will be 100 percent flawless or that some owners won't have a hiccup here or there, it goes with any new product........BUT the extent that you're trying to imply that there will be all these problems is just overdoing it. Period.

If you could actually come up with one piece of new "BLEEDING EDGE" technology incorporated in this new V8 then you'd have a point.

Again, what is the new tech you're worried about? Turbos? Direct-injection? What? Do you know, or are you just yelling fire for no reason?

Just wondering...how do you know the 2011 S550 wont get the new V8? Didnt the article say we should be seeing this during the fall?

I just cant wait to see this coming out.

On a DI car, there is no fuel in the intake rail. On an FI car, the fuel acts as a cleaning agent inside the rail - when the recirculated air from the PCV system comes into the rail, the mixing there provides cleaning of deposits normally present in the recirculated exhaust gases. On the current Audi FSI engines (check some of those boards), there are alot of reports about fouling of the intake rails on those engines, especially for people who make alot of short trips. Of course these rails can be cleaned via some kind of maintenance procedure, but the problem exists. Its made worse in the US market because our gasoline isn't as "clean" as Europe's, which contributes to the problem.

There were stories that MB was going to have some kind of refillable cannister on their DI engines, to carry a detergent of some kind that would be injected into the intake rail. The article makes no mention of that. Maybe they designed a superior oil separation unit to solve this problem.

Ok, I see what you're saying here. I've heard about about this, but it wasn't called that if I remember right. This is the reason why Mercedes has resisted DI here in the U.S. for years after nearly all of their competitors had adopted it.

I'm not sure how they intend to keep this from happening or what they've done differently - point taken. So far the press on the new V8s has been limited.

Guess we'll have to see when they announce the new V8 in detail, likely next month when the facelifted CL is shown to the public. I would guess that after years of watching BMW and Audi/VW field test DI with crummy gasoline in the U.S., Mercedes would have a solution otherwise they wouldn't bother with DI.

Thanks for the info.
This kinda sucks because it looks like the 2011 CL is getting the new V8....but the S class is not...

Question arises,
what MB is planning to do, engine wise with CL/S 600 and CL/S 65 AMG?

Actually, dont want to spread bad info...it looks like the 2011 S will get the new engine afterall....

from the W212 threads I found:

Update: Mercedes USA spokesman Rob Moran has confirmed that both the CL and S-class models in the U.S. will get the new twin turbo V8 in Q4 of this year with other models getting it in 2011. Models currently powered by a V6 engine will get the new V6 beginning in 2011.

Uh on we have conflicting information. Press release says no, word of mouth says yes. I'd go with the press release. Press release was issued after those comments were made.
