How to use mechanical key to unlock door in w221 with a dead battery

Hi,
I left my lights on overnight and my battery is dead. I tried to use the mechanical key to open the driver's side door, but it won't unlock. The key goes into the lock and turns counterclockwise, but nothing happens. I read the owner's manual, which says to pull the handle after turning the key and the lock should unlock, but this isn't the case for me. I need to get into the cabin in order to pop the hood so I can jump my car. Does anybody have any suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

you have to turn the key *and* pull the handle at the same time... try it again and you'll see what i mean.

You mean "turn the key, then pull the handle quickly. The door lock pin pops up. Then you (I mean OP) can remove the key and pull the handle again to open the door.
