Telematics update and rear view camera

Hi Guys I just joined the forum.I have 2007 S550. I want to have rear view camera and video in motion installed. Spoke to a rep at midcity engineering in chicago, he said I have to have a telematics upgrade done by the dealer.
Pls advice should I do this or is it too risky? I am afraid it may cause any problems in the car.
Thanks.

I have a 2007. Just had the Mid City stuff installed two weeks ago. Works great. I had the telematics update put on in June.

FYI; It was a bit of work to properly run the camera wires (I had a independent tech, who is familiar with Mercedes, do it).

I don't have any pictures (yet). The camera is mounted just to the left of the trunk handle (a plastic cutout).

The install price was $700 (California labor). Took 9 hours total. The job was first rate, no clips broken, camera wire tied to factory wiring bundle. I chose a guy who is know for being meticulous (and not cheap).

It all comes down to having access to someone who does good work in your area.

Mid city stuff was $725 (with a Kenwood) camera. My installer found their product to be first rate.

Audi Q7
rear view camera kit and monitor just for seeing what's in the way when you back up.
Cheaper ones available for under $100 but you get what you pay for. Don't know what you'd want to record behind you, but I'm sure that a cheap 12v DVR could be added
