You guys are awesome

Hi all MB members

I just got my S550 07 after more than 3 months of shipping and God knows how many months storage. The battery was dead and had to JS it and it's starting on it's own now.

What I noticed is that the engine light is always on and the whole electric system goes dead when I take out the key. The engine light is not a problem any more after I changed the engine oil, flushed the engine and put in a new oil filter, and drived around for a couple of days. The go dead thing is still there and from my search here and on the net, hopefully a couple of new batteries will do the job. I unscrewed all what can be unscrewed in the trunk only to find nothing. Many of the functions don't work such as the car rise.

OK how the hell do I get to the battery in the back? In retarded elaborated detail.... please, you see I'm not that sharp

Do you think that changing both batteries will really take care of the problems I'm facing?

Take care

The panel behind the rear seat at the trunk side comes off without tools. Take a grip at the left top and pry it off carefully. You'll find the battery behind the rear seat, a bit to the right from the middle.

Check that all the pre-fuses (the pyro-fuse too) are good.

Thanks a million Diesel Benz,
Now I take that the fuses you mentioned are the ones under the hood? Or are there any back in the trunk next to the supposed to be there battery? Sorry but what's the pyro-fuse? And where is it? Told you I was a bit slow mate.

Prefuses exist also at the vehicle power supply control unit at the trunk. I think you can forget the pyro-fuse at this point.

Thanks Diesel, I finally got it open... and guess what? there is a battery back there !.... what a surprise.

Do you think that changing it with a new one and checking the fuses will solve the problem?

I checked the Volt on both bat's they are both around 11volts when swiched of and about 15 volt when car is running.... is that normal? One other thing I did not mention is that when all is dead and I put in the key to start it, just as I plug it in it makes a solenoid kind of sound as the electronics kick inn or when it cuts off.

15 volts at the battery terminals, when the vehicle is running means that the charging system is working. 11 volt when the engine is not running means that the batteries are not holding the charge, they should be 12+ volts. The batteries may have a bad cell so they are not holding the charge, thus 11 volts.

Thanks Trinsoca,

Well would changing the batteries fix the problem of the total electronic sudden death that takes place every time I pull out?.... The key I mean

Most likely you would get rid of those sudden death problems but don't worry about that for the moment. You do need new batteries anyway, change both (to good AGM batteries), let them get charged well and see if you have other problems to be fixed.

I'm traveling for a week and leaving the car so I think I'll change them when I am back.
Thanks

Thanks to every one that helped out here and a special thanks to Diesel Benz.

The car is doing very well now that I have changed two batteries "original Mercedes " they cost me 266$ each.

No more of those haunting sudden deaths or non functioning buttons

You should also buy a trickle charger if you plan on having the vehicle sit for months at a time.

CTEK Battery Charger US3300

I had a corvette and this was the best out there. It will regulate itself and come on when it is needed and the most important thing is it will go off when it is not needed.
