Old thread, but I really have to laugh...come on, you drive a soccer mom mobile.
I have driven a Genesis 4.6 and the interior is better than my E350....the ride and feel, not quite. However that was an 010.
I am going to test drive the 012 R-spec 5.0 and it may replace my C63.

Why I will tell you how, Charly: Because I have owned both. Have you driven an Equus? You do note that I own a Porsche GT2, an M3, a C63 and an E350....you drive a Merc from the Chrysler years (although the E55 was a better than normal example). I have driven more high end cars than you likely ever will. People wrote off the BMW 30 years ago, the Lexus 15 years ago....they are all established high end cars now.
The Equus is just as nice as the S class. It was so nice that I bought one on the spot last weekend. After almost a week w/ the car, I am more and more impressed everyday. So was the MD/Phd at my tint shop who owned an S class. We compared the interior and both agreed that the Equus had the edge (although his S class was 3 a 2010...the Equus a 2011).

Old thread...
Though, did you guys see the Wall Street Journal ad yesterday praising the Equus as a Status Symbol? The as was taken out by Hyundai.
Remember, you're comparing an S class that is basically 4-5 years old with a car developed more recently. Wait until the next gen S is here. The benchmark will be reset. It's sort of like how my M5 was so cool back in 2006 with its 500 hp. But, today, with all of the horsepower wars, 500 hp isn't what it used to be!
Regardless, I'm sure it's a nice car because it still commands a hefty price. However, you won't find me personally lining up to try it. That's just my opinion. And I'm in control of deciding what I drive. :-P

But you guys have to admit, Hyundai is placing a name for themselves in the auto industry at a fast rate...I can only see them improving every year.

My one criticism of the Equus is that, although the moror is silky smooth and wisper quite, it could use a bit more power (385 crank hp).
However next year it will have 429. In any event, my GT2 makes 800 on c16 if I really want a hp fix.
The current Genesis R-spec is making 429 as well. I drove it, however, but it was not in the same league as the C63, but again it is $23K cheaper (doesn't look like any more trunk money since MB learned its lesson from the last 2 years).

Absolutely, the Koreans have really stepped up their build quality.
Even the Sonatas and Azeras look nice (although I will never drive a fwd car again).

Just to be clear, when it comes to luxury sedans that are brutally powerful, no one can touch MB. There is no competitor to the s63/65 or the E63....the R-spec I drove was an excellent car for $46K...but no match for the C63.
However at the rate they are improving, hopefully Hyundai will have some serious forced induction sedans in the future.

Hell, if it's my only car (i.e something that I'd need to be passionate about and appreciate the design of), I'd rather have a C250 over an Equus.
However, if it's a second car (i.e something that I just need for utility/bang-for-the-buck) and don't need the styling to inspire me to even want to wax it, then I'd love an Equus. I'm sure it'll make for a great means of transportation.

I took my equus to get a clear bra and tint, an MD/PhD was there getting his 2010 S550 done.
We did a direct comparo of interiors, and both concluded that the Equus was nicer inside. He was blown away. That has been the reaction of everyone when I show them this car. Alcantar headliner, hand stitched leather dash, extremely high quality seating, etc.
