Engine 30 057331 is within affected range for timing chain guide, clean point is 30 088611. In addition, rear camshaft plastic caps are within affected range and may leak oil, clean point 30 264566.
If steadfast on purchase:
Have MB dealer pull vehicle master inquiry (VMI) for VIN to see if there are any outstanding recalls and/or service campaigns (repair is free out of warranty) and confirm whether chain guide and caps were replaced.
MY07 check if navigation has birds-eye view (BEV) capability if not, you will need to update Telematics. If you purchase current navigation disc from dealer have them install disc and attempt to activate BEV since they will be unable to Telematics should be updated at no cost to allow navigation to function properly – see attachment here https://mbworld.org/forums/5316801-post5.html.

No, not good to go. If the engine number is within the affected engine range, it's only a matter of time until it wears. The worn balance shaft on V6/ sprocket on V8 issue is not a recall or service campaign and thus will not show as an open or closed recall or service campaign on the VMI. I advise against purchasing this car.

Is my car effected?
My 07 S550 check engine light came on the other day. Took the car to the local dealer and they told me that the codes 1200 and 1208 appeared. The car has 34000miles and two and a half weeks out of warranty. They are telling me the car needs a timing chain gear sprocket and possibly a timing chain. I could not believe my ears what I was being told. After doing further investigation I find out that MB sent out bulletins to their dealers regarding a problem as described to me. They talk about how to repair it but the dealer said if the car is out of warranty were on our own. They list the engine vin number range of all the cars affected and said the factory corrected the problem after the vin numbers listed. I'm very surprised at a solid company like MB would not recall the cars affected and correct the problem. I guess if anybody is in the market for a used S550 they should do their homework or face the possibility of being out of pocket 5K. There are a bunch of other MB models that fall in this timing chain and sprocket issue. I'm waiting to see what corporate MB is going to do for me.
is this an effected vin? Can anyone help me find out?

2007 SL550 - Cam Balance Shaft Engine Range
I know this is bringing this thread back and appreciate any help on this. Looking at a 2007 SL550 and need clarification on the affected range.
Car has 75K miles, no CEL, runs great, Engine serial is 30 108007 and the affected range is (Equipped with M273 Engine Up to Serial No. 2739..30 088611)
My question is do you take the last 4 numbers of the engine serial number or the last six? If the last 6, this engine range should be fine, however if it is the last 4, no go?
