Navigation functions

Are you sure the car does not have any Video In Motion CAN bus filters, it would make the approach to the turn inaccurate in many cases and the advice could come too late or too early, I assume this is not the case.
2009 and earlier only mention the name if it is a highway number. Similarly, freeway off ramps are only named by number.
Information for turning is given well in advance. There is usually a warning to prepare to turn right or left. In addition, often you will see an indication along the bottom of the display (and also in the speedometer if nav mode is selected) which shows which lanes you should be in.
Assuming you vehicle is a 2009, it most likely has the latest firmware update.
An indication that it does is if the radio volume fades down while navigation announcements are being made. It should also have real time traffic information displayed (if you live in a major city where the information is available)
