Tires
Then switch in the good weather to summer tires designed for the warm pavement and wet roads. Whether you spring for a second set of rims is up to you (advisable if you're keeping the car for years) -- easy to switch each season plus the tires all last twice as long anyway. I live in Ontario and have driven the S Classes for 25 years and that's the only way to go...
All I would add is - look at the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tire, instead of the MXM4 - you should find the A/S to be higher rated, and less $$$s. Read reviews and see pricing at tirerack.com for your application.
