dreaded B service arrived

so we have about 20000 miles on the S550 and i was looking at all the "checks" the dealer does for us along with the glorified oil change they perform...for 300 plus bucks

is it possible to goto the dealer and just have them do an oil change and still reset the service cpu or do they make a stink about it

im perfectly capable in changing a cabin filter ( which probably is ok anyways), my wipers are fine, everything is working fine and my tires are staggered so they wont be rotated regardless..

how are you guys dealing with this....

Simple I do not get raped by the dealer. I go to my local mechanic who is head and shoulders better at working on cars than the parts changers at the dealership. He charges me $90 and I am gone. For $45 I changed my cabin filters myself, and they needed it...

Just bring the car in and tell them all you need is an oil change. I would have them do the whole service B if the car has higher milage, since they top off all the required fluids.

I am with Emilner. I have indie do the work. About $100 (uses Mobil 1, filter, fluids etc.). I did the cabin filters, as Emilner did. It's about a 20" job, even if a klutz. I have a PDF of step by step, if anyone wants it.

I know the "if ya wanna play, ya gotta pay" song, but I hate getting ****** w/o even getting kissed.

If you are near other dealers, shop the maintenance. Transmission fluid change, gasket/seal and filter....identical procedure. Dlr. south of me--$480. Dlr. west of me--$299. For $180, I went west, young man, I went west.

The only real difference between "A" and "B" service is replacement of the interior cabin air filter. If the filter is clogged, the performance of the air conditioning and heater will be reduced. If the air flow is still good, there is no real reason to replace it.

The one additional bit of required service every two years is replacement of brake fluid.

"A" service is often available in Southern California for less than $150. Most dealers price match.

I recently paid $110 at a dealer

I think b svc also includes wiper blades, so it is definitely worth payin the extra $200 to use the dealer.

your kidding right, u can get wipers for 40 bucks and put them in your self, and they dont need changing every yr...esp in less rainy areas..

plus , they still charge on top of the base price to the cost of the blades...i dont think it is included

I will never get another Service C or B. or anything else. I have paid as much as $700 here in New Orleans and I could have done most of the things a la carte for much cheaper. I believe in my heart that we should all control the maintenance of this vehicle ourselves.

Proper fluid rotation on this vehicle seems to be the body of work required for good performance, etc.

Its ridiculously simple

First I would never change wiper blades because a manual made 5 years ago says to. I would wait until they stop performing up to par. Second, to pay $200 (not including the cost of the blades) to get $40 wiper blades put on is insane, certainly considering it is a 3 minute job....

Yes, I was kidding about the $200 blades. We had indy in LA change my mother-in-law's C280 for $6 insert(no metal blades). I think in SF, we don't use the blades that often, but they do dry up over the summer when it's hot. Therefore, I think they usually are best to replace every 12-18 months.

Vdubpower and anyone who wants it. Here's the pdf on r/r the cabin air filter. Pics and words. A no-brainer.

It helps to set the two filters removed on the ground in the same position they were installed and removed. You can't really goof it up, with the pdf, but visually seeing how the two face each other, air flow directiion etc. will assist insuring you put the new ones in correctly.

If you cannot get the pdf, private message.

Good luck.
