Towing another car with s550 - OK?
Im about to be moving across the country. I have 2 cars ( A lexus ES and a s550)
Think there would be any issue with the benz towing the lexus? I suppose I will have to get a towing hookup or something, but can the benz handle it without issue?
Also, what exactly do I need to tow? Some sort of hitch attachment or something?

Dunno if your car has the sport package or not, but be wary of the ground clearance in the back if you do fit a hitch. I presume you're hoping to attach a flat-bed trailer to the S which would carry your Lexus. If I were you, I'd consult the dealer service department, rather than a U-Haul dealer or someone else who has little experience with our cars. I've never heard of anyone towing another car with an S, but from a technical standpoint, it seems like it may be possible. Good luck.

If you hire shipping company - it will cost $700-$800 to bring your car anywhere in US. I think it's safer and easier idea.
Anyway..Good Luck.

Where are you moving to? I just shipped my car from NJ to Vegas for $1100 even. If you are patient you could ship your car for ~$950 but If you want it moved quickly $1100 is enough.
Remember that you will burn extra gas towing the car. Adding a tow hitch to you vehicle will cost ~$100. And renting a car trailer from Uhaual is $300-400. So in the end it may be cheaper or break even to just have it shipped.

my 2004 S55 eats highway miles while I am wrapped in total comfort and bathed in automotive bliss, but an '07 S550 would be even better...
... until you hook up an ES on a trailer.
WTF???

+1 on the shipping!!
Asking for trouble stressing out components that are expensive to fix, air suspension, transmission, engine, etc... And, bolting on a hitch... yuk!!! Not to mention wiring the trailer lights for the brakes and turn signals... There isnt ready plug and play harness like an SUV with a tow package... More damage then paying a shipping fee....
Dont do it!!!

What do you mean when you say across the country?
Either way if its not near by - less than a 100 miles, I wouldn't do it. The S Class will be harder to control which will exhaust you faster and besides you are going to burn way more gas while towing a heavy load. It would make for a good pic tho
Contact a car auction and ask them for a quote to get your car shipped. They shouldn't charge more than a grand and the whole delivery should take less than 10 days.

Sell the Lexus so you don't have to ship it. Use the money from the Lexus plus the shipping savings to buy a Passat, a good bargain for a german engineered car - I put 170K miles on mine.

Only Class 1 hitch is available in US. 2000 lbs gross trailer weight capacity and 200 lbs tongue weight max. Most likely you will exceed capacity.
Use to have hitch installed on S550 for last minute tooling and material deliveries to my service techs.
You'd be surprised how effortless towing 2000 lbs, even on hills and twisties.
