Whats going on with the roads in the east coast
Am i the only one that has to deal with bent wheels every month? I have reached a point i no longer have interest in driving. The roads in the tri-state are horrible.

I feel your pain. I bent a wheel really bad (which had to be repaired) and got a bubble in a different tire. And I've hit countless other potholes which have bent the rims but not bad enough that I have to get new ones yet.
The roads are really unacceptable and the state/towns should be forced to pay for damage to our cars if they won't properly maintain the roads.

lol Rt 1 and Rt 9 are crazy. you have potholes that can swallow a tire. The dealership gets tired of me coming to fix my wheels.

I doubt they get tired of it, that's what keeps them in business. I'm getting a tire replaced tomorrow morning because of a bubble, but I bought the tire myself, the dealer charges too much.

My friend hit a huge pothole with his 550i. The structs and the wheels are finished and what dealership do you go to?

Here's a picture of the bent rim I got from a beautiful pothole back in February. They were able to fix the rim though and refinish it so I didn't have to buy a new one.

Oh okay. I actually regret spending 4500 on the S63 wheels i have on now. I should have kept my 19 inch wheels, They were just a lil too ugly for me

In February I hit 3 potholes in a row on the Bronx River Parkway...had to be towed off by "registered tow" and then Mbrace came to change the tire. Rim was okay they said, and only needed a new tire (tear in sidewall). (Covered by tire insurance).
Soon I noticed shimmy at speed over 60. Took car in and was told I had 3 bent rims.
I guess the wheel and tire insurance I bought has paid itself already!

Bent wheels are a pain. I had new Lowenharts on my SL back in 2006 ($6k-7k new for the wheels not including tires) and they got bent up in 2-3 months on potholes in Chicago and have been sitting in a garage ever since. Absolute last time I will ever buy anything but an OEM wheel.
I had the stock 19's on my M6 and luckily never bent one but hit some huge potholes. M wheels are supposedly pretty darn bulletproof. Upgraded from the stock 17's on my 750 to OEM 21's and have blown a tire but no bent wheels yet....
You can file a claim in most cities for the damage if you can prove they knew of the pothole and did not fix it. Problem is....just about every city seems to be broke with the economy so you know you won't collect. It's really all about tire size....what tire sizes are you running on the 20" S63 wheels? I assume maybe 40 fronts and 35 rears?

I haven't had any issues with my original wheels, the roads have been hell on my 22s. One just got dented on Wednesday, I've had at least 3 of my four other sets of wheels replaced in the last 2 years. The Tri-State area road are terrible.

In my country if there is potholes in the road they have to put signs up saying be carefull... If not and you hit one the county has to pay for a new wheel or repairs, you just have to supply them with pictures of it also because the day after someone files a complaint the pot hole is fixed so they try to sneak their way out of it

It looks like they're repaved most of Rt 1 by marketfair, but after the business district and into Edison and Menlo Park, the roads are simply atrocious. My mom's Q5 (which we've had for barely 4 months now) got a bent rim which left her on the side of the road in north jersey.

I'm running 255 in the rear and 235 in the front. Whenever i hit a pothole i get really upset. I put the S63 wheels on in Nov and i have spent 600 fixing them whenever i hit a pothole.

I've replaced 3 tires this winter due to blowouts. The roads here are the worst they have ever been. DOT is "punishing" the citizenry, I guess their budgets (most of which go to their compensation) aren't going up enough. All road repair should be outsourced to private construction contractors - then you would see the roads repaired.

22's are a given... even 21's if they are 3 piece. But I am sure you knew that when you made the change over. there is just not enough tire to help absorb the shock, and the low profiles have such heavy duty sidewalls that the energy is just transfered to the rim... which bends
I have an acquaintance in NYC and has gone through 5 factory rims and 6 tires. He is wondering if it is MB issue on the 550.
But the roads here in Ohio after this past winter, which hopefully is going to end soon, are the worse I seen since the 70's... we don't have pot holes, we have crevasses.

don't feel bad .. at least your wheel was repairable ... mine wasn't .. left lane of the long island expressway eastbound between exits 31 and 32.... normally I'm very careful but it was raining and by the time I saw this one ... the TPM was already reading "tire failure" destroyed the two right wheels

Less Damage on 19"?
Is it my imagination or are the predominant wheel problems occurring on 20" and not 19" ? My CL63 with 20's suffered from numerous pothole incidents yet I notice that the CL & S63 in Europe and other markets are all 19" and not 20". Is wheel/tire damage that much less with one inch smaller wheels?

I personally don't think the size of the wheels matters. My girlfriend bends her 18 inch wheels on her 335i all the time. I had lot's of issue with my 07 650i that i put some 19 inch M6 wheels on. On my S550 i bent the 19 inch stock wheels a couple of times. The only difference is that with 20 inch feels you feel the road surface more. The roads are starting to look like roads in a third world country.

I just had a wheel fixed a few weeks ago. I still run 18", and being the Northeast, I don't plan on going higher. In fact, for this reason I've been considering "upgrading" my wheels to 2006 S500 AMG wheels, which are double-spoke yet still 18"....The offset is slightly different and I would need 4 front wheels since with 4matic I would run 18 x 8.5 all around. Silly idea? I haven't seen it done before, but I really liked those 2006 wheels on the W220!

I went up to the factory 19" on my 2010. I wouldn't go any higher than that. RIde is quite good and so far only bent 3 rims and replaced 1 tire.
In reality, I don't think I would have purchased the 19" w/o wheel and tire insurance. Actually with any sized wheel insurance should be a no-brainer in the Northeast.

That's the reason I changed to 18" for summer and 17" for winter. It doesn't look as good but serves excellent.
On the 124 coupe 15" and you have no problems
