Just had a strange experience, got beaten up by 335i Cab.
We have a very nice long curve which connects main city road and a highway close to my house. The beginning of the highway is the best benchmark if you want to try acceleration and road handling and it is often absolutely empty especially at night. The road quality is superb too, straight, smooth and a bit uphill. Simply ideal for accelerating or having fun "racing" for about 1Km without endangering anyone.
I was driving slowly in C mode and just got to the curve when I spotted BMW headlights behind me. The guy got very close (1m to my bumper) "BMW style". I hate tailgating and also felt like racing so I switched to S mode, hit left paddle and accelerated hard from the middle of the curve. I had around 120Km/h in two seconds and he lost some distance but 2 sec later he was next to me, that's when I realized it is a Cabrio and I though "oh yes M3" and in two more sec I realized it is a 335i because I saw two round exhaust tips.
He was awfully quick at the end and I couldn't figure out why.
I didn't stop him to ask but I think he had his 335i chipped to 360hp because standard 335i with 306hp could not beat S500. Could it? Let me know what you think or maybe some of you have these two cars or have friends so you can compare.
The specs are clearly showing Merc should be faster:
335i 306hp / 1825Kg
vs.
S500 388hp / 2055Kg
Power / ton ratios (167 vs. 188) are uneven, Merc would win. What do you think? Is it possible the BMW was chipped? I checked some tuners websites and 335i can be tuned to 360hp. That would make it 197hp per ton which makes sense.

2007 S550 Black-on-black
Yes, stock 335i cabrio in most cases will be faster than S550 (S500), RENNtech did dynojet on S550 and got 298 WHP, normally stock 335i about 280 WHP on dynojet. So if you do the math:
S550 (US) = 4465 lbs. / 298 WHP = 14.98
335i Cabrio (US) = 3957 lbs. / 280 WHP = 14.13![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
335i with Procede and Intake run about 345 WHP on Dynojet, BMW N54 is really capable engine.

I don't share your viewpoint. S63 is loud, too agressive for my style and rwd only. S500 4-Matic is well balanced car. If I could I'd get CL600 - that's really tempting for me.
My neighbor had a CL63 so I could take it for a spin when I wanted. It was very nice but it doesn't have enough tq imho.

S550 WHP is roughly 270 HP, adn the 335i WHp is about 250 HP, and with the weight difference it isn't surprising that stock stock, would out do you. As far as tuned to stock...not much of a question lol.
Both fine machines, but S Class's aren't for racing. That's not why we have one
