DVD Navigation V.10 - "No Command Update"

DVD Navigation V.10 - "No Command Update"
Hi folks,
So I recently upgraded by Navigation with the current V.10 edition. I went to my independent and had them hook up the STAR system in order to get the latest and greatest COMMAND update.
No luck..no updates according to them. Another forum member did the same DVD upgrade and went to his local Merc dealership and they told him that they would hook up the STAR system and if there is an upgrade, then the charge would be $240 and if there is no upgrade, $70 charge.
Well, no upgrade was found after 1hr20min.
How is it that there would be no upgrade? Both vehicles are '07 S550's. The deficiency is that there is no "bird's-eye" view and other featues that come along with the V.10 upgrade. Only the map itself.
Has anyone experienced this in the past? Do we try another dealership? I know some places are clueless on the upgrade...they just plug the system in and that's it....but really is that all that they can do?
Would appreciate your thoughts!

Its likely that your indy's STAR system had not been updated. The subscriptions are expensive and just because he had the system does not mean he has received the latest updates

Bird's eye view does not come from the map DVD but from the telematics update. I wonder how the independent tried to search for the COMAND update, he would need the telematics update DVD for that.

We updated the map first then went to the independent/merc dealership. Never thought that I needed to do the Telematic first?
Is the Telematic update only avaialble through DVD?, no STAR system?

Telematics updates for a W221 come on a DVD but you need STAR to update the software from that DVD.

As S5502007 mentioned, I went to the dealer, there was NO updates available to the "drivetrain nor the telematics"....
Should I complain that the command is freezing?
I've downloaded the the V.10 disc should i have done the telematic up grade prior to the download of the V.10 disc??

It don't matter if u did the nav update first or last. I updated the nav disc first and had my dealer do the telematic update after. And it worked perfectly. I would suggest go back and compaline to them that your command freezes up. And they will do the software update for you. By then you should get all the new nav options.

If you have a 2007 and mention MBUSA DTB P-B-82.85/512d they will do the Telematics update for free because the navigation update DVD cannot properly load without it.

I did this to my car and a friends car. All works. Telematics and the latest maps and all works...It did not work without the latest maps installed.
I can also say the if you are NOT located in the US you can NOT use the US telematics update DVD, It is a special one for europe.
I LOVE THE UPDATE...Comand looks 10 years newer.

Thanks to your post I took my 2007 S 65 into the dealership today to get the telematics (Command) updated. They did it, took about three hours. That is how long I was there, I don't know that the actual update took that long.
You are right, the command system looks much better, has has many more options. I'm hoping to soon update the maps. I think my car still has the original maps that came in it. I expect there will be some of the newer roads added but will I will see any improvement other than that?
BTW: With the update you can see "Miles to destination" and "time to destination" on the full Nav screen. You also get a "Traffic" and "Video" option. This is just to name a few. I'm still discovering other stuff.

On the main screen I now have an option named "Traffic". It is at the lower left of the screen. I understand if you are in an area that has rsd traffic radio service I will be able to see traffic problems ahead and get rerouting options. Only available near certain cities.

On the main screen I now have an option named "Traffic". It is at the lower left of the screen. I understand if you are in an area that has rsd traffic radio service I will be able to see traffic problems ahead and get rerouting options. Only available near certain cities.
