Considering Pre-Owned 2009 S550

Hi everyone,

I had a 2004 S500 that was nothing but trouble that I purchased from an independent dealer with no warranty. I won’t do that again. For the past two years I’ve been driving a certified pre-owned 2006 BMW 750Li and while I love the car, I can’t go through another winter without 4Matic. Since the 750’s didn’t start with x-drive until 2010, there aren’t many pre-owned x-drive models available at this time.

I am currently considering purchasing a certified pre-owned 2009 S550 4Matic with P3, rear seat package, side shades, 7 spoke 18” wheels, panorama roof, upgraded Nappa leather, etc. No AMG package which I don’t want anyway with the potholes in New Jersey and I am also purchasing the car for better winter performance.

Several questions that I am hoping you can answer:

1) One feature I love in my BMW in the winter is the heated steering wheel and that is the only option this car doesn’t have that I would like. Is it possible to add one later? If so, how much would parts/labor cost? Also, does the entire steering wheel heat including the wood, or only the leather sections?

2) Is the Nappa leather more desirable than the standard leather? It isn’t grainy like the standard leather and I was wondering if it would show more wear/tear.

3) Any issues with the panorama roof that I should be aware of?

4) The car has 45,000 miles but I would be purchasing the extended warranty so it would be covered for another 4+ years up to 135,000 miles which I’ll never reach. In this case, is 45,000 miles too many miles for a 2009 model?

5) What DOESN’T the Mercedes extended warranty cover? Other than cosmetic issues, brakes, tires, wiper blades, etc., is it as comprehensive as the standard 4 year/50,000 mile warranty?

I know you may not have answers for all of these questions but any input you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Hello

I can comment on 5.

I purchased a certified 07 550 with the extended warranty.

It covers everything tranny engine electronics, air suspension, pretty much everything etc. Mb said that its just an extension to the existing warranty per mb.

My camshaft was leaking oil and that was fixed free of charge.

Did you go to globe mercedes in fairfield nj? That's where I got my car and they have aa few late model scs in stock.

Good luck.

I'm not really sure, I feel like it would cost around 1grand, maybe? It heats the leather, but eventually the heat goes to the wood too, just a lil slower.
2) Is the Nappa leather more desirable than the standard leather? It isn’t grainy like the standard leather and I was wondering if it would show more wear/tear. I'm guessing Nappa, is the premium leather? If its the premium, then it is much softer, and it actually is really very nice, but I do feel it is more likely to get wrinkles due to the softness in texture...but for some reason the seats don't get as "greasy" as our 07 (non-premium) did...which is a plus.

3) Any issues with the panorama roof that I should be aware of?
67k on the 07 and 18k on the 2010, no problems at all.
4) The car has 45,000 miles but I would be purchasing the extended warranty so it would be covered for another 4+ years up to 135,000 miles which I’ll never reach. In this case, is 45,000 miles too many miles for a 2009 model?
I would personally go with something with a few miles less, but I had our car till 67k and it drove like a dream until that day...no ride quality drop. And with the warranty its stress free!

5) What DOESN’T the Mercedes extended warranty cover? Other than cosmetic issues, brakes, tires, wiper blades, etc., is it as comprehensive as the standard 4 year/50,000 mile warranty?
No issue I saw, our 07 was extended to 6/70k....I didn't even use it lol.

We went from an 04 745li, to a 07 s550 and at first it was hard to adapt to the less sporty ride, but after a few weeks, i didn't even rmr the 7

And when it was time for a new one, for the first time ever we leased the same car consecutively (minus the LED changes) its just hard to say no...you'll love it.

Hi,

I just purchased a CPO'd '09 S550 4Matic, black/black, P2, Pano, upgraded 19 inch wheels from an MB dealer. There is 21k on the car.

The dealer is offering to sell the MB limited extended warranty for $3695. Now, with the balance of the original warranty + the CPO warranty, I'm covered to March '14. The certified preowned extended warranty provides coverage to March '16 or 135K miles.

Based on experience from those who bought new and still have the car, do you suggest buying the warranty from MB? Has the '09's been more or less reliable since introduced on '07?

Thanks in advance for your help. Dealer also indicated if I purchase after taking delivery of the car their would be all kinds of price increases, surcharges, etc.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can share ....

Joe
