New 2012 Engines

Hey guys, thinking about picking up an S class for myself. However, haven't figured out if I wanted to wait and go with the MY2012 and a new updated engine, more power + more fuel efficient and direct injection, or get a MY2011 and get model-end discount, which I am hearing I can probably get about 20k+ off sticker.

Initially, I wanted to get a S550 so decided I'd wait for the MY2012 since I will probably be keeping this car for 10+ years.
However, I decided maybe to get an S400 instead. I really don't need the power to be honest, I'm 62, and just want a comfortable ride. Does anyone know if the S400s will get a new engine for MY2012? I know I read about S class engines somewhere, but I can't seem to find that article. Can someone confirm, or link me to an article that talks about the MY2012 S-Class engines. Specifically, is the S400 Hybrid getting a different engine?

Thanks guys!

First production year is always a bad year to purchase any car.

Go with the forthcoming diesel. If you're like many Americans you have reservations...even *strong* reservations...about diesels. However,I can assure you that today's diesels are *nothing* like the diesels of the 70's and 80's.In fact, they're nothing like the diesels of a few years ago.Drive one (try the E-Class just to get an idea) and you'll see why Jeremy Clarkson described the engine of a diesel 5 Series he drove recently as "relentless".And I get 42mpg on the highway...although the heavier S Class 4matic would probably get a few mpg's lower...say 35-37 (just a guess on my part).

Isn't the 2012 S engine just the one that they are already using either in the CL or CLS, I forgot which one. It's been running for a few years without any major problems from what I know.

The 382hp 5.5 is being replaced with a twin turbo 4.6 429hp engine in the 2012 S-Class. 2012 is the first year for the CLS, while the CL received the 4.6 in 2011. It's new but I wouldn't be concerned about any first year issues.

I would highly recommend the MY12. The diesel is an outstanding choice.
