Question W221 Express Closing on Panorama Roof

Anyone knows the logic behind the lack of express closing for the panoramic sunroof and sun shades on the w221?

Is there a mod out there that allows express closing of panoramic sunroof and shades?

I just can't understand why the regular sunroof has express closing but not the panoramic one

The express closing isn't actually missing from the W221 pano roof, it is just missing from the early models. I guess does not make you feel any better. Difficult to see any safety issue there or other logic.

It's kind of annoying, I wonder if they can just program it in?

hmmm...how unfortunate I wonder if this is something that can be done via a software update?

One touch closing i.e. not having to keep holding the switch until it's closed all the way.

Doesn't the express need an extra indent on the switch?
If so, I don''t think software would ever work.

The switch is different but DAS allows these settings to be modified via version coding and it looks like it could be possible to activate one touch from the existing SW if the switch was changed (at least after SW update to the control unit).

That's a good point. I don't know the differences in the physical looks between the two switches, but I notice that when closing there's no going beyond the resistance point. However, while opening, going beyond the resistance point puts it in Express Open mode. So it makes sense that if the physical switch doesn't allow going beyond the resistance point I don't know how the software will tell the diff. between manual and express closing? Unless it would do away with manual closing and just go straight into express closing.

I remember reading somewhere about it that it was an obstacle sensor issue. Say something was in the way of the track, since our roof goes up and above, when it's closing, I guess it's harder for it to tell if something is in the way and to tell it to stop. Still makes no sense why either the front or the back sunshade for can't be one touch close though??

hmmm...if that were the case, why is it that some ppl have express closing on the panoramic roof enabled?

Well I was just trying to find where I read it before but can't. I did however find another thread in this same forum talking about the exact same issue and someone there posted a pretty good tip. Holding the air recirc button on the dash closes everything, which is much better imo than holding your hand up there like an idiot. Haven't tried it personally but people are saying it works for pano too so I'll def be closing it that way from now on.

As weird as that sounded I just tried it out and it actually worked...go figure. However, unfortunately this doesn't solve the problem because the "recirculate" button still doesn't offer express-closing and I have to keep holding it all the way

That would be the best resolution as far as I can see, good enough for me, who needs a solution. Why didn't I think of this before, I think it's a standard feature for most if not all newer benz.

The only thing this solves is that you don't have to hold your hand above your head to close the sunroof but you still have to hold it until the sunroof is fully closed...and if the sun is beating down on you you still have to use the overhead switch to close the shade as the recirculate button seems to only close the sunroof. So while I think this is neat, it's still nothing like one-touch closing

Did you read this whole thread or at least the previous post from dannieboiz?

Early W211 cars with pano-roof do no have the express closing feature. This is what the thread is talking about. If you wanted to know why, you can find some views from this thread or other similar threads but only MB knows for sure.

No need to be an a$$ I read the entire thread. I thought it was referring to the sunshade on the panoramic sunroof, which is the glass in the back, not the sunroof it self above the driver.
