Question S class with high mileage?

Hey everyone, I'm new here and i'm looking at buying a pre owned S class in the future (probably within 12 months) and I have a few questions.

Given this will be my first S class (and my first Merc too,) im wondering what I should avoid. From what I understand an issue with the early w220's are the air suspension. however what about the other parts of the car? There's an 06 s430 i found with 113k miles that is selling for around 15 grand American. I also found an 08 s550 with 96k miles for 32 grand.

is this kind of mileage acceptable? what kind of warranty should i look for and what are the average repair costs if not under warranty?

also about the engines themselves, are any considered to be better then others? How about problems with the 4matic system?

thanks in advance for all the help!!!

Love your aggressive attitude. Two things, there's no free lunch and you get what you pay for. If you have the huevos to buy on the cheap, there's great fun to be had. But, have some serious bucks/euros/gold/et al laid away. Things break/wear out. When they do, be prepared to pay--big time.

Buy the 221 platform. Looks, value and current electronics outweigh older platforms.

Simply an opinion, which are like eyes. Everyone has them and no two are alike. Good luck.

Thanks for the opinion, I appreciate it

and sorry about the attitude haha. I'm just excited about it and that leads to impatience.

Buying a W220 or W221 is up to you. It depends on what you like and can afford. Just keep in mind, purchasing is the easy part. Get it checked out first and a very good warranty or have a stock pile of $$$$ for repairs. Some people have them with no problems, other have the world of problems new and used, no two are alike. Some early 2007 W221 have timing chain problems. There is a posting with this info on this site. Hopes this helps.

if you can get a w221 that is certified by MB so you will have a 1 yr warranty from them. And you can also purchase an extended warranty from 3rd parties, covered in threads on board. Good luck.

08 98k miles for $32K is cheap. I think its worth it as long the previous owner has maintenance record. Ext warranty can help but cost $4k in 3 years i believe from Mercedes. I wouldn't buy ext warranty. If you know a decent Independent shop, the cost of fixing is HALF of dealer. I doubt you will spend more than $4K repair in 3 years. Of course not include regular maintenance like tires, brakes, oil and filter change. Good luck !
