Airmatic malfunction - air compressor dying at 57.000Km

Airmatic compressor is dying at 57.000Km .. However, problem sorted with my dealer, took about 1 hour to diagnose and 1 more hour to replace.
Ride is more comfortable now, less body roll.. my MB dealer admitted pre-facelift W221 Airmatic compressor is not strong enough to last and facelift one should be stronger.

Its funny how people on this forum get same issues, almost at the same time. I had this issue 2 weeks ago and as soon as mine got repaired i saw couple threads already on this topic

What was your mileage when it happened? Just curious.. I treat my car well and still, at only 57.000 Km something as important as Airmatic breaks down..

What is the cost on this, if the car is out of warranty?

The cost of the compressor itself is aprox. $300USD+VAT (as seen in the warranty invoice)

I got that issue at 67000 miles. And the interesting thing is that those problems appear during cold weather. On my w220 i had the same problem as soon as winter came. I treat my car well to, but there is no treatment/maintenance for airmatic that needs to be done regularly, at least that i know of.

The 221 has the Airmatic compressor to the front of the right wheel fender, remove the inner liner from the front and you can see it.

Mine has 100 000+ km but was not aware that the compressor should have failed already (actually twice).

W221 airmatic malfunction

My car has done nearly 70k and I have already had the front two suspensions replaced but it has come with a similar problem giving the message that vehicle rising malfunction. I am getting a bit sick of dealing with the costly repairs. I will be taking the car to the dealers tomorrow hopefully it should't be a costly repair please fill me in if you have any info. My suspension is very very low at the moment.

Arnot sells a conventional coil over strut set that's supposed to ride well and completely bypasses the airmatic system. You'll lose the air ride and it'll hurt resale but it ends airmatic issues.
