Couple of questions.

If you had your rotors and pads replaced..did you have MB do it?

If so what did you pay for it?

Of if you went aftermarket and got your own brakes, rotors, what is your experience with that what was your final cost?

I know going your own will be cheaper but wanted to see if it's worth the savings and the trouble..

I had my front brakes and rotors done about 3 months ago by a local garage that caters to foreign cars. He used the original MB rotors. I believe it was a substantial savings - I can dig up the exact amount, but i believe it was around $474 total including the parts and labor.

 

go for outside dealership replace repair, they can do it same as dealerships at a substantial cost savings, original (OEM) brake pads are made by jurid, same as bendix company after the merge. if your rotor are still within the tolerable thickness you can have it machined it get even surface. the shop must have a gadget to retract the brake calipers/piston (it is an electronic gadget attached to the computer plug inside the vehicle, this is to avoid damaging the ABS system. Most shop know what to do, it is quite elementary.

 

Having my brakes done right now and opted for Akebono pads. OEM pads make too much dust for me.

 

thanks guys...i glad to hear that..i heard mb gets you during the service calls...i did find a local mb specialists who can do the work for me..i was afraid that going outside to do brakes will void my warrantly but apparently they can't do that.it's against the law to void the warranty and i'm not required to have mb do my work..thanks.

 

What about the rotors? Who makes them and what are suitable brands?

Btw you can just push the pistons back mechanically ,no need to connect to the computer etc, its straightforward old school brakes.
(with hi-tech functions like bas and pre-safe and of course abs).

 

Be sure to suck some fluid out of the brake resourvour first or you will have a mess.. I did my own in about 3 hours.. nothing to it..You need to replace the little sensors too..
