Finally a sub enclosure for our cars - teaser
I've been at this for awhile and finally got all the measurements worked out to fit our car flush into the back taking up only 10" measuring from the back seat towards the back leaving all the compartment in the trunk accessible.
The box is a slotted vent tuned to 32hz which should give be plenty plenty loud and maintain the SQ of a sealed box. Tuning the enclosure isn't hard, tuning it in such a confine space was the headache. This is going to be my 4th prototype and finally tuned correctly with multiple software. I'm starting my build tomorrow and hopefully it'll be the final.
it's going to be house with a 10w7 paired with a 500.1. with the stock sub removed to let ai through, rattles will be minimal and I should get 90% of the pure sound into the trunk.

Coming together pretty nicely

Everything fits

Thanks DB. Your work looks good. I'll probably mount my amp in the trunk as you did and go from there. As for sub, I'll go with a 10" SSA Icon with Sundown Amp. I don't want to ghetto-fy it with too much boom. Good choice on going with a 10" sub. !2" would hit really good to, just don't want to go overboard.

I plan on mounting the amp on top of the box once I have it carpet up and build a face sheet to flush everything in so it would look like it's part of the car.

I couldn't stand it anymore so decided to stay home from work today and test the box out. I popped in my bass test track and let it go through the frequency. I'm sad to say, now I need to dynamat my car, lots of it. LOL
it's at least twice the loudness of my old sealed enclosure.
I do noticed a lost in punchiness. but it SQ is still decent compared to the other 12" subs I tried in this car with similar enclosure. I'm going to keep in there for a while to see if it can grow on me. if not I'm gonna build a sealed box to fit and I'm sure I can design in an amp rack next time around since the sealed box would require half the space once I minus all the vents and braces out.
Time to go buy some carpets.

I'm thinking of doing a single 12w6 with the 500.1 amp? I took out my trunk carpet and I guess the previous owner had a sub set up before. Because some of the wires had electrical tape on them. Now I just need the wire diagram to see what wires are what.
Nice work and looking forward to future builds. DB you think the sealed box would sound better than the slotted box? I'm only doing this build once, so I'm open to ideas. I definitely want to get that stock sub out of there. The rattle that thing has now is terrible.

You need to remove the driver side trunk panel to find the bundle of wires. Use wire taps it'll make your life easier and less intrusive.
Sub 1
+ = Blue
- = Blue/White
Sub 2
+ = Brown
- = Brown/White
I only tapped into the sub 1 wirings and used a splitter. u don't need both since they're mono anyways.
If I remember correctly you'll there are two blue cables. The correct one should have a matching blue/white and the other single blue wire is for your remote turn on if your amp doesn't have a remote sensing on feature.

I'll take a look and see if I can find them wire.
DB how's that sub going for you and what are your thoughts on slot vs sealed enclosure. I just ordered an Alpine Type R 12" sub. Going to go with the 1000 watt Alpine Amp to match. Alpine makes a good sub for the buck, it's nothing like my SKARs or SSA Icons which I don't feel are needed in the S550. Should be just enough to give me the bass I'm looking for though with a single sub.

OTOH: I used to have a type R in a slotted box and it played extremely well.
This box design actually produce much more bass than a sealed box. Even at low volume, the bass in the cabin is probably twice as loud. Depending on the type of music you listen to. If you want a flat bass for trance/techno go with a sealed box. If you want to wake up the neighborhood with your hip hop and rap then ported is the way to go.

Then sealed box is the way to go. The hardcore box builder will always tell you that they can design a ported box to sound as good as a sealed but louder. I'm just not there yet. LOL I say stick with a sealed box, it'll make your life easier. I might go back to a sealed box as well when I'm bored and decide to build another one.

That all depends on you. What's really enough? The sealed box sound cleaner but for sure missing a few DB in the cabin. If you can lose the stock sub to provide air flow between the trunk and the cabin, you should gain a few DB.
But then again, it depends on your sub and amp as well. If you like your hair tingling with the bass then go with a ported box. If you want to hear a flatter response and more accurate bass go with a sealed
