Finally a sub enclosure for our cars - teaser
#26
Ok so I think I have a handle on this now. I received my custom built Alpine Type R enclosure today. Box was like $ 76.00 and measures 24L x13.5Wx13.5H. It is also tuned to 32hz and vented. Should be plenty with one 12. I also scored an Alpine MRX-M100 amplifier new on Ebay to power the Alpine Type R 1243d sub. Everything will be wired in @ 2ohms to put maximum load on the amp.
Nishboo, I took a look at your build and decided to go with the Audiocontrol LC2i for my application. There was actually a user that has an E class Mercedes and posted a review over at Crutchfield. He also made mention of removing the OEM sub to get more bass in the cabin. So once I get the converter I will go for the installation.
Dannieboiz, any other thoughts or ideas? Many thanks for initiating this and to you as well Nish.

I'm really curious on if the Audiocontrol LC2i makes that much difference in the sound quality. I find it best to leave all of my xover on the amp off and just use the default freq. from the stock system .

Check this video out. Should help you establish an idea in regards to the LC2i being worth your coin. I'm going to give it a shot.

The concept is great and it's common sense that higher voltage would of give u louder sound. It's marketing IMHO, there are gain settings within most hi/lo converters which u can achieve this as well.
This wouldn't help my amp though since I have a hi/lo switch on my amp that would automatically boost or reduce the signal so it won't clip. I was hoping it would flatten out all the curves tuned by the factory radio similar to the 3 Sixty or Clean Sweep. My gains isn't even more than 1/2.

Ok installation is complete. I must say I am very happy with the end results. The output is amazing but not overwhelming with the rest of the Logic 7 system. The single 12" sub seems to blend in rather nicely. I did have some rattle , but it was easily fixed. I would highly recommend the install.

Well here's what I had my shop do. I simply used DB's wiring guide for the wire taps to install the LC2i. I tapped into Sub 1 using the schematic. These wires are Blue/Blue & White. They ran the amp power off the battery in the trunk. Power for the LC2i also comes off the battery. From there I was good to go. The LC2i is perfect for adding a sub/amp combo in the trunk as it has a feature called Accubass which will prevent bass rolloff in the system. From there it was simple wiring of the amp and zip tying everything for a finished and clean install. Couple pics are attached. Installation hit me for $300.00 and now I have a nice sound system in my S550. If anyone else wants it done, use this thread for reference. It was very easy for them to do using the info posted here, the wiring guide is a life saver. Thanks DB and thanks to nishboo for posting pics as well of his install.

any issues with the sound going crazy with the bass. I remember on my w215 my subwoofer would turn up and down by itself because of the mic in the dome light area. I had to disconnect that. If so where is that wire located?

Ive got the LC2i installed as well. I did have a problem at first where the sub would turn on and off at times and the bass was just erratic. Took the car back to the shop and they made a few adjustments to the LC2i and now everything sounds great.
