The Bumper Project: DRL hook up?

I am planning to replace my 2008 s550 bumpers to s65 style as shown in the link below

http://www.ebay.com/itm/280814761637...84.m1439.l2649

I know couple of folks on this forum have done this

Do you just replace the foglights with the DRLs (i.e. it turns ON only when you turn on foglight switch) or is there another light source I can tap into that will turn LED's on when the car starts up (as in newer models) --- without any overheating issues?

Any help or links would be appreciated?

Thanks!

This has been discussed several times already here with different solutions. Most simple solution is to conect the DRL to the parklight and leave the foglight behind and you dont det ANY heat or error codes. If you want it conected to the fog light and remove the foglight you must use resistors.

Sidemarker may be the way to go...

I just started the front bumper install today and think hooking it to the side marker lamp seems the easiest options.

New bumper is UK style - so no slot for side markers - might as well use that source to power the DRL. I tried this and it seems to work well. No issues with flickering or heating.

Does anyone here see an issue with this as opposed to hooking up the footwell lamps like couple of other members suggested.

As I said in the PM...The parkslights is the simplest way and works fine.

Quality is the same as OEM. You wont find a better kit. It is amazing and even made in the same materials. Only the partnumber is missing inside it.

So on your project how did you wire up your drl's since it does not have side markers and did you leave your fogs connected behind?

what other parts do you need to make this bumper work? clips? brackets? I just want the front bumper

I know you need a new front grille, but anything else? or it just bolts right up.

I just dont want to get it and then realize i need a bunch of extra parts I dont have.

The kit has all you need. I just completed front and rear bumnper over the weekend - front bumper took a whole day esp. the part of hooking up the DRLs to side markers, wiring / splicing etc. You obviously need the front grille as indicated on listing plus make sure the grille comes with emblem or you need to buy one for it as well.

So you have the del connected to the old side markers w/out any issues?

Yes, DRLs are now hooked up to the side marker lamp source - new bumper dont have slots for side markers anways - so worked out well. I left the fog lamp source inside the bumper.

I have had this setup for a week now - no flashing or overheating issues.

On a separate note - I am painting my new bumpers tomorrd wondering if I should also paint the grille in the front or leave it unpainted.
