Facelift Multifunction Steering Wheel issue

Just bought 2012 steering wheel, airbag and silver paddles, added to the car, everything plugs in and fits, but nothing works, no buttons, horn not working.

Does this need reprogramming or something else?

Am going to MB tommorow to find out next steps, will update here when I know more. Did speak to parts guy who said it is common for reprogramming after steering change, nothing about changing units etc.

Quick update......took it to MB, put facelift wheel on, still no joy with paddle/horn/button on airbag, message on STAR suggesting no comm between steering contol module with Wheel, ? check LIN line from N80 steering control mod. Unsure if this programming or wiring issue then. Wondering whether the electronics unit in the steering wheel need updating. Or perhaps other control units like the front SAM/CGW or SCM.

Sorry.....tried uploading pics but not appearing.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Ok, Here are the pics. Thanks.

Steering Wheel Facelift.

Without the airbag, the electronic unit with part numbers. Everything plugs into this so does this need changing to a unit compatible with my car W221 2007?

The STAR error message.

YOU CAN NOT INSTALL IT ON A OLD pre facelift CAR!!This is the same with as with W211! I have said this so many times one here and on PMs. Totaly different electronics inside the wheel. Nothing that can be programmed. Will never work. All you can do is Just sell it to someone with a facelift car. Hope no one else do this misstake from now on..

(Please forgive me, my ability in the English language is very weak, I use Google translation )

Initially there are four things related to the steering wheel:
1 - air bag.
2 - horn.
3 - Paddles.
4 - switches.

1,2 and 3 very easy and will work perfectly without any modification, just plug and play. But fourth item (switches), It's very difficult, accurate and it requires tools and professionalism,

If you have a desire to see the details, I will explain to you everything which would require me to raise many of the illustrations and the way the amendment.

Thanks ,
Yousef Alghamdi.

Post Here we are :)

Well guys,

I am very sorry for the delay

Ok, As I mentioned to you earlier that there are four things related to the steering wheel:
1 - air bag.
2 - horn.
3 - Paddles.
4 - switches.

1,2 and 3 It's very easy and will work perfectly without any modification, just plug and play. But fourth item (switches), It's very difficult, accurate and it requires tools and professionalism.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(The first phase)

Here I will explain the three items above by the following photos:

If there any comments or queries, Please tell me.

Please Work carefully, focus and take a pictures of the important things for reference when you needed.

Six images below explain you how to remove the pin.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After that, install the new steering wheel with the application of the previous explanation and here we have finished the first phase, the three items that we talked about working well.

Note: You will see the AIRBAG SRS fault on the instrument cluster screen, You just need to erase fault by MB Star Diagnosis.

Move on to the final phase.

The final phase is (the switches), where we will integrating the old switches with the new and installed on the new steering wheel, Because the new switches system is quite different from the old and therefore we will have to integrate them.

I will explain this phase in detail in the next post.

And here are some illustrations (also See the attached file):

Sure all can be done but most often when they ask this is if it is just to intall it with no mods made.
