dammit got rear ended!

I got rear ended by a 2011 E class yesterday. She seems to be out of her mind or something. I was on the 2nd to the right land going into an exit, she was like 15 or so cars behind me when I noticed she changed lane from the far right lane into my lane. Cars were slowing down quite a bit since it was a busy exit at the start of traffic hour. Next thing I knew, we felt a bump, my car jumped maybe 4 feet forward (I was starting to to move at this point) then I looked into my rear view then I saw nothing but the front end of the same E class I noticed earlier ramming up and hit me AGAIN! WTF is wrong with her.

Thanks goodness the prego wife is ok as well as the 3 rear passengers. A little dazed and sore in the neck that's it.

So I stepped out to inspect my car, at a glance there is almost no major damage beside some paint scratch. Further investigation I noticed one side of my bumper is definitely pushed in by 2 or 3 inches because the clearance of my exhaust are no longer even. One side is showing more and sagging more than the other.

What pissed me off was she was trying to blame it on me. When i stepped out and saw the damage, I told her that it doesn't look too bad, why don't we exchange information and I'll get the repair estimate and let her know. Then she started going off at me as to why I had stopped on the freeway (wtf, if I hadn't stop I would have rear ended someone just like her lol) and started to look at my damages and told me that those are old damages. of course I got pissed off and said **** it I'm calling the cops to get this reported since she could possibly try to blame this on me.

sounds lame as hell.......
I feel your pain more than ever because I also was in an accident this week.....
except I was to blame.....
here in NC we make a police report no matter what......is it the same in CA?
the woman must be off a bit to even get out and start up with you about damage.....you know she was feeling really stupid and trying to find someone to expell her rage on.......
did you notice the damage on her E? .....
from the way you described everything I hope she's held accountable....
after I calmed down after my scuffle, I actually found myself wanting to apologize to the man that I collided with....just because it seems like the right thing to do......but this isn't the day and age for that it seems........

are you going to throw up some pix?
good luck and I hope it all works out

Since I have a white car, the damage is hardly visible in photo so I didn't save it. The only obvious damage is the sagging of the bumper.

The E was a pretty tough car too, paint scuffs on the bumper but I saw no cracks. I think it's partially because I had my foot on the gas and was beginning to accelerate when she hit me which soften the impact a little.

Being in an accident in japanese cars in the past, i thought for sure I would have lost the entire bumper and possibly the trunk based on the impact but all 5 of us were suprised to see how solid the car was built even to the plastic bumpers. LOL

LOL I was rear ended by a Camry in my W211 a few years ago and my car had a broken bumper, broken tail light and a dent on the trunk while the camry pretty much lost the entire front end.

went out and took a few snaps you can see the gap that open up and the difference between the 2 exhaust.

Caution-- There may be more damage that you are not seeing. Mercedes vehicles by design have crumple zones that are made to take the impact. You should have your vehicle inspected by a Mercedes certified body shop for any hidden damage as well as by your insurance company. It is also possible that your rear axle might have been bent slightly or the real wheel alignment might be disturbed.

+1. Get your car checked. In addition to the body and frame, make sure there was no damage to the drive components since your car was in gear.

I hope you got her insurance information. While I hope it is nothing serious, you could be easily looking at over $2K worth of damage to the bumper, bracket or anything else inside. I'd definitely have it checked at a Mercedes certified body-shop and send the bill to HER insurance company to fix the damage. This way you don;t have to deal with paying a deductible for your insurance company.

She has absolutely ZERO chance of blaming you for the accident. It is her responsibility to not hit the car in front of her and always maintain a safe distance from the car in front of her.

This is why tailgaters are SOL if they ever hit the car they are tailgating as they have to assume all liability for the accident.

This reminds me of when I was once driving close to where I live and some bratty kid driving his dad's car tailgated me and slammed into me at a stop sign. The kid was all mad and tells me "do you know who my dad is?" I said I didn't care a rats *** about his dad and by the time we are done with this and your insurance pays for the damage to my car you are going to learn to keep a safe distance from the car in front of you. I called their insurance directly and had them pay to have my car (thankfully not the Mercedes) fixed. I bet the kid got a lecture from his dad about keeping a safe distance from the car in front of him.

I don't think the messed up rear end can support your custom stereo anymore, I'll be down next week to pick it up

All dealers with body shops are certified. Your dealer may be able to also provide you with the names of other Mercedes certified shops in your area.

See http://www.mbcollisioncenters.com/do...ers_Aug_12.pdf for a list of certified body shops

+1 on having the vehicle inspected. Had someone side swipe me and even though it appeared to be a scratch the damage was substantial. MB replaced the gear box, some other steering components, alignment, paint, and other stuff which came up to around 7k in damage. After not having it for a tad over a month, I get it back this week. GL bro.

At this point you need say no more. I have yet to meet the "she" that was NOT out of her mind or something.
