so what exactly does the sound amplifier mic do?
I decided to take the overhead console off and unplug the mic to see if there's gonna be any improvements in my audio but saw no change. Just curious on what's its exact function?

If its a mic. and not a movement-sensor for your alarm ,then it lets the secret-services listen in on whatever you are saying in the car ,not!
Anyway ,seems logical that is is for the voice-comand if applicable and is used as the handsfree-mic for the telephone-kit if installed?

No it's not, my W211 had this and so does this one. The SLK also have this as well in fact, I think most if not all MB from a certain year has this.
It's not part of the phone system because my phone still works after I disconnect it.
I know that it's supposed to measure cabin pressure and do something with the car audio system but I what to know exactly what...

Its most probably the auto sound level adjustment sensor(mic.)or whatever its called.
The more noise in the cabin the louder the audio from comand gets and vv ..

W203 slightly modified
The microphone which is hard wired into BOSE or Harmon Kardon was initially to determine the ambient sound level and dB of the system. Compared to having your windows open or distortion at high volume.
It was later deleted as some people didnt like speed-related volume increase.

Yah it was a piece of cake to unplug but to be honest, I saw no difference. LOL even before I disconnected the mic, I never had a problem with the volume going way off on me.

Open the sunglasses compartment and shine a light up there you'll see the screws. Unscrew that and remove it the whole upper console should come down the mic is in there.
