7 series or S class?
<--waits for the "oh but I have xyz job and i'm an entrepreneur and I run my own company...blah blah blah"

Instead I am reading a lot of BS from many sides about how old the poster is, if it's a poser and what else. I don't particularly care.
The topic is still interesting to me. So for what it's worth, I thought it may interesting to post some impressions.
IMHO, any pre-2009 BMW 7 series is ugly as sin and still has too much Bangle in it. Post 2009, these cars are not only looking good, they also sport a nice twin turbo engine and would be my pick over a non-turbo S-class, at least when compared to a 2007 to 2009.
I love the 2010 and later facelift and the car looks great even without sport package.
What I like in the MB: as a long-time S-class driver, this thing fits like a glove. Love the overall build quality (especially as compared to the W220). Good seats (great if dynamic). Great 7 speed tranny and the suspension is super comfortable as well as agile. Better chassis than the BMW. With the twin tubo engine, it is seriously fast.
The iDrive is better than before, but not as good as MB controls. I personally like the look of the S-class better.
What's better in the 7?
For one, it comes with Napa leather. Much better than the MB leather unless you get a Designo. Head up display: I am in love with that thing! Full color, great navigation directions. Didn't know I missed it until I used it.
Seats have the ability to adjust the upper back. Lots of adjustments. Better seats.
The engine is better than the non-turbo MB V8
What's worst in the 7?
Lot's of things I like in the MB are possible, but are not adjustable via the user interface. You have to code it with your own PC if you want it... For example:
I like the auto folding of mirrors when locking the car. Not set for the US.
I like to see the tire pressure and temp on the TPMS, not just a green tire. Not possible for the US.
There are a hundred settings like that. Very annoying. Seems like the car is dumbed down for US customers.
The audio system in the MB sounds better than in the BMW.
I read earlier that MB's are much more reliable than BMW. In my personal experience, that's not the case.
The W221 is by far better than the W220, but MB has had serious quality issues over the years. Never on the essential drivetrain, but plenty on brakes, suspension and electronic gimmicks. Nuisance issues that cost serious money if you are out of a warranty.
I would expect both brands to be the same quality from 2009 and later.
Both are competent, luxurious cars.
Just my 2 cents...
Not as bad on newer bimmers but close to it.
I like responsive trans of bimmers and handling. But for me softer ride and electronics (instrument cluster/nav/steering controls/voice command etc..) of Benz way oughtweight bimmer.
Before anyone calls me biast, my sister and brother I law have bimmers as well so I have something to compare to. Even 08 bmw iDrive is lacking behind what Benz had in s class since 05 - I think (Europe)

Buy the S-Class. BMW's suck. Period. Post up pictures, or we'll all just keep thinking you're a teenage troll.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG

That said, the comment i was referring was simply dumb and didn't add to the topic. Typical premature response you normally find on YouTube...
Here are a couple shots. Think those two make a nice pair

The BMW is now lowered. Which brings me to another benefit of ABS or Airmatic cars. Unless you spring for a fairly pricey lowering module, lowering a Mercedes is dirt cheap using the lowering links.
The BMW uses springs (front with rear links) and lowering it cost somewhere in the $800 range for parts & labor.

I had it lower before, but even with the max. camber adjustment it kept on running down the tires on the inside
Other than that test drive couple of S-classes and see how you like them, if yes buy it, if no then get smth else. At the end of the day, you are the one who will drive it.
