Please Help Check Engine Light/ Engine Malfunction light is on
A couple of days ago when I was driving my 07 S550, a message appeared in the instrument panel telling me to check the engine oil level at my next refueling. So I contacted my local dealer to locate the leak but my appointment isn't scheduled until later this week. Meanwhile I checked the dip stick and saw that the oil level was low. So I added oil today(Shell Rotella T6 synthetic) without over fill according to the dipstick. I think the dealer uses Mobile1 when they did my oil change, anyhow A couple of hours later I drove the car and now the check engine light is on. If anybody can offer any reasoning for this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Best thing is to get an OBDII reader and read the code. I doubt its from too much oil, but you never know.
The emissions system in this car seems to be very complex and an error from one device does not necessarily mean that device is bad. For example, if you get an O2 sensor error, it could be a bunch of stuff other than the O2 sensor, thats just where the car detected the problem.
I continue to get OBD P2422, which is a emissions evap error, but I simply clean my gas cap and re-tighten and after about 2-3 days, the error goes away. I think I need to replace my Shut-off valve and carbon canister, as I still fill gas veerrry sloowly to fill the tank.
I have a cheap OBDII reader one, $20 from amazon but it does not seem to be able to delete errors, so I may have to invest in something more sophisticated.
Anyway, hope this helps.

the symptom of a slow fuel filling is cause by the shut off valve canister, replace and the check engine goes away, cleaning the gas cap can only add to aesthetics but not function.
this a common problem with this year model. your not alone.
