Where did those MP3 files come from? Could be DRM protected. Are you sure the format is MP3 and not AAC or something else?
Sounds like your PCMCIA adapter is SD HC capable. The 16 GB card must be an SD-HC card.

format your SD card and only put one or two MP3 songs in there. Make sure they're Mp3 and not Mp4.
If they play, then you most likely have a file somewhere in your directory that's in the wrong format or corrupted.
This is the exact one that I'm using with a 16gb card with no problem. Occassionally, I will get the exact message as you but I just eject the card and plug it back in again and it works. sometime I have to do it a few times.

EDIT: I just realized that you only have 3 songs in there.
How are the files stored in the card? Make sure they're MP3
I have no music in the root of the card. They're all in folders.

I have to litterally shut down the car close the doors wait until everything is off.. Then when I get back in and power up ,the PCMCIA reader finally recognizes the HC-SD-card when I choose MP3 in the menu.If I take the same SD-card out then put it back in again; same as yours: audio format unknown..
Have tried everything: different sizes HC-SD cards with CBR-MP3 files, that all does not help ..It takes 16GB cards even with VBR-MP3's. Just have to reboot Comand completely before it works.I have also tried to reformat the SD-cards then write all MP3's as one chunk as well as different classes(speeds) SD-cards, no luck..
Next I will get an original MB PCMCIA-card to try to get rid of this annoying issue.
Or a Comand-firmware update if this helps at all ??

I think amazon sells ones that are suppose to be compatible with Mercedes. HC cards are what usually give the system trouble. I would imagine it's something to do with the card reader feeding the data incorrectly. I had great success with compact flash cards but sandisk discontinued them.

hey all,
I would like to share mine, I bought my PCM from MB with the Card which was only 2GB.
Songs plays but between songs it needs times such as 15 to 30 seconds and when it got frozen I have to switch off the car then get out and close it after a while I open it and switched it on then it plays fine again or leave it plays without changing the song :$
After what I faced, I bought a new card which is 8 GB and yes sometimes works good sometimes not. I think the problem is the capacity comes first then the type of the card also the number of songs. I might be wrong and might be right, but i want to share that so we can solve this issue ..

Got the original Mercedes-Benz PCMCIA-Card now; partnumber B6 782 3982.
At first I was happy no more unknown audio format !Hurray!! I can browse and play songs !!
BUT.. after the 16GB (class10) SDHC ,I was trying a 32GB(class6) filled with 15GB of tested MP3's on Ipod and PC it started playing the first song..
Then after browsing to a directory with some tested MP3 on PC and Ipod which always gave me an unknown format error on Comand with the clone PCMCIA-card, no more music from the SD-card whatsoever even when changing back to the 16GB-card..
Comand MP3 keeps stuck at the title and does not move even after turning off the car exiting and rebooting Comand completely.
Guess I have to listen to the radio ,as none of the disks are being read in this freeze mode of Comand as well.

Its indeed quite quircky which SD-cards and songs(MP3-files) are accepted by the system.
For now I am using a class10 16GB SDHC card filled to the brim with MP3's CBR and VBR and seems to work fine.
I have noticed since I have gotten the original M-B PCMCIA-cardreader ,the sound quality seems a bit better ,less dropouts and freezes.
