2007 S550 - Finally got factory Aux installed.

My 2007 S550 did not come with Aux or iPod interface. So finally I got factory Aux installed in glove box for $200. Quality of sound is great. Finally got freedom from Satellite radio, PCMCIA mp3's and CD's.

Now I can use my i-devices and use my music library and internet radios. Aux looks and sound great. With my music link ($40) I can get music streaming over Bluetooth also.

One hour and $200 get you freedom from MB stinky PCMCIA crap. I am very happy with Aux.

Time to cancel the satellite radio and listen to internet radio's.

No offence...but i find it very annoying on forums when members post stuff about their success on solving something that majority have struggled with but don't give any single detail on how others can achieve it. Like they waiting to be begged.
Maybe it's just me...oh well

hadam has not posted at the forum since the message at this thread. Perhaps he has simply not visited this thread and has not seen the questions. Someone who is interested about his approach could send PM to him, an email alert would likely reach him.

At least this is not following the worst formula that repeats quite often: members insisting help, then finding the solution and stating "will not help others with a solution because nobody helped me".

Considering AUX solutions for the early W221 cars, there is a factory retrofit kit for AUX audio as well as for AUX video. WIS includes installation instructions. These cables fit into the connector at the rear of the COMAND unit. Quite an easy task with marginal DIY experience.

There is also an iPod interface kit, difficult to say if hadam installed this one or perhaps some after market kit.

Only for cars without TV tuners though, is that right?

Do you think so? The AUX wiring goes to the main 20 pin connector (1A) while the TV tuner goes to connector 5. I only looked at this briefly though.

The TV option not an issue for most of the members here (from NA). Also the TV tuner itself has AUX inputs if needed for this purpose.

No I don't know. That's the answer I got after asking a Chinese eBay seller, but I obviously don't really trust them.

Is there any programming required to render the 'Aux' signals active,if you have connected the cables to the back of the Comand head-unit?

Comand needs version coding to activate the AUX inputs but this is easy for any Star Diagnosis tool owner. The W221 is covered by the older DAS program and most version coding menus are easily accessible.

My apology for not replying on time. I was on vacation for last 2 weeks

Dear all, my apology for not replying, I was on vacation for last 2 weeks.

I got the aux installed in my 2007 S550. It is not iPod kit, just a simple audio harness from MB that get installed behind head unit (CD changer/PCMCIA crap) to get you Aux in glove compartment.

The installer has MB PC system, that he connected to my car 14 pin connector under the driver side and then he coded my command unit for Aux. Once he coded, the Aux show up under Audio menu. He has to turn on and off my command unit at least 3 times to get new coded Aux to show up under Audio menu.

For harness installation he removed my head unit and un plug one connector and he added 3 pins to connector empty slots (Right audio, left audio and shield). Once he connected this harness 3 pins to connector then on other side he ran same MB original Aux connection to glove and installed it next to glove light.

After that he connected the connector back to head unit, that now have 3 more wires on it, installed head unit back (4 simple screws) and I got aux audio.

Aux Audio only have volume controls, does not show any song titles or neither I can change forward and reverse or folder or play list. It is simple MB aux input.

I am very happy with sound quality. No whining sound and no any distortion of sound, it is simply good due to MB OEM harness.

The installer used to work for MB of Laguna Niguel, MB of Flechter Jones in New Port beach etc.

He has MB computer system and he can install your rear view camera, he can do coding of your SAM's to install OEM 2010 up tail lights etc.

The tech name is Joe Eyerman. The shop is located in Costa Mesa, Orange County California.

FYI. Do not waste your $$$ on iPod kit, it is around $500 plus you have to pay for 2 hours of labor. I like the Aux, it is MB OEM and it cost fully installed for $199 plus tax for harness.

If you don't want to plug and un plug your aux cable, you can also add simple Bluetooth to your $199 aux input.

To put my Aux on Bluetooth audio, What I have done is now that I have USB/Aux/iPod Y cable, so I take power via USB, then Aux goes to head unit and at iPod connection, I added Musiclink BT and I can listen my music on Aux via Y cable and music link on Bluetooth.

If you need more info, please let me know or email me. I don't check Private messages, just simple email is better.

Congrats on the Aux In. Giving up the song and artist info is a minor inconvenience. If you use an Apple device, Siri can handle the song selections for you via voice. Does the 07-09 W221 have a 12v power outlet in the glove box like the 2010+ cars? If so, I have a mod you're going to want to try.

I know my Aux does not give me all the songs and title info etc, but I am still happy that I got freedom from stinky PCMCIA card crap and CD/DVD.

I got ride of XM/Sirius from car now. Free iTunes Radio and plenty of radios from internet. Data is cheap now on iPhone, it is fun to listen what I want.

It is 2007 car so I did not had in glove 12 V outlet, but I got one now. It was simple mode. It is 2010 style OEM MB power outlet.

I did updated the command software (Not NAVI update) when I bought this used 2007 S550, so in my NAVI I get birds eye view etc.

I think this is it, I may have reached the limit of this old technology MB has in their luxury cars.

I love the ride of this car, otherwise technology is very old in this car. I rent many cars for my business trips around the world, I find technology on my rental car is much more advance then in this 2007 S550. But again S550 is the best ride, it is so much fun to drive this car.

Therefore some audio deficiency does not bother me to much. At least I got the Aux going so I can listen to my giant iTunes library.

This week I am in 2013 loaner C-250, technology is better in newer MB's. My S550 in shop for warranty work to replace leaky radiator. Oh thanks heaven for extended 2 years, 24000 miles warranty, it has been very useful for older S550. It was good investment to have some extended warranty on 2007 S550.

So far warranty had paid for Engine/Transmission mounts, door outside mirrors motors, front suspension and now Radiator.

Happy New Year to all the great members on this forum. As always, you guys have saved me thousands of $$$ from your good advised and technology knowledge.

I listen exclusively to ITunes radio now. Great library and it great sound quality as well. Try this $49 mod and I guarantee it'll blow you away. It all fits neatly in the glovebox.

The EQ is a Clarion EQS746 (Amazon, $49)

The other stuff is at Radio Shack.

Are these 2 sets of yellow/white/red AUX ports output or input ?

I read they were output to stream TV to rear headrest screens.

I have Video Aux enabled in the Comand but after plugging a front facing camera into yellow 1 (and then 2), nothing on the Comand screen. Plugged into AV port on my Sony TV and works sweet.

That is quite interesting, and something I would not found out of the ordinary, given that sometimes you ask something and no one answers it.
Whatever the reason may be, it happens.
In fact, as of right now, I am asking for an answer regarding a muffler (in other sub-forum) and yet nothing.
Sometimes it seems you are just late to the party and many of the members (that have done mods for instance) just doesn´t log in anymore, so it seems.

Was the total job itself $200 or just the part to add the aux? I tried a couple places and they both quoted me over $1,000 to do the job due to having to mess with fiber optics on the car.

you have to plug in a Merc dealer diagnostic tool (aka a windows PC running Merc xentry software - to get that to talk the car the way the car understands things - you need a multiplixer wired from the pc to the car, aka a SD connect box of tricks - then hunt round the comand menu choices and tick a box....)

anyone with this kit can do it in 10 minutes...
