To make this less confusing. Is it true that as long as you have a 2007-2009 or 2010-2013 "AMG sport package" rear bumper, that the diffuser from the S63 will fit any of those AMG sport package bumpers?

A quick update... I called MB and tried to order the parts mentioned above. They have part 2218852225 (lower diffuser), but have no record of part 2218853225 on their system!
JT.S550, you mentioned that your cousin succesfully put these onto a 2007 s320 long wheel base. Was this a UK car?
Are the part numbers for the UK?
Also, The exhaust company mentioned that no quad mufflers would fit this car without removing the rear boxes. Was this your experience as well?

Many Thanks

The car is a European long wheel base but that doesn't matter, find a s63 or s65 with the rear diffuser give them that Vin number and they will find the part number, now the tips you just cut off the tips and weld install the new ones There are two tips one is the pipe running down the middle and the other is a pipe running in one side of tip with a loop connecting to pipe that is the one that fits perfectly, I don't know about the tip with pipe running in the middle of the tips

I have received my quad tailpipes and rear diffuser now. I am due to get them fitted in the next few days. Can anyone advise me what the advantages / disadvantages are of removing the rear back boxes when fitting the new tailpipes?

A mechanic told me that removing them would damage the car in the long run. Is this true?
Another tuning shop said I should remove them! So confusing!!!

I have a 2008 s320 cdi long wheelbase

I don't understand what boxes, it's the tail pipe on the muffler that you cut so you can fit the muffler tip, when you put the diffuser on then you can see how much of pipe to cut to fit the tip

Sorry I did not really explain that well at all.
What I meant was the resonators (silencer boxes).

Has anyone done this? Does it cause an issues removing them?
The last thing I want is a horrid farting noise!

Hi JT.S550,

I managed to get the rear diffuser and center piece from Mercedes (exact part numbers mention). I took them to the garage to get installed with my Muffler tailpipes but got told that the rear diffuser is 3/4 of an inch too long!
I am stuck with a painter centre piece but should be able to return the larger diffuser hopefully

Are you sure your cousin installed that exact part onto an S320 CDI long wheel base?

I am not sure if the garage is doing something wrong but they claimed to have tried for over an hour to fit it with no joy!
They also cut off my rear resonator boxes and had to re-fit it all back to standard

Images attached of the new and old rear diffuser. You can see that the fittings are not aligned correctly and that the new one (V12 symbol on it) is about an inch longer.
I have placed the new diffuser on top of the old one.

I am not to sure either. The s63 / 65 must be slightly wider. Are there any other part numbers that you can think of?
Did he have to modify the rear diffuser to get it to fit?
if it was only the clip positions that were different I could possibly try and fit it, but this is actually wider as well.

I know there is another type of diffuser that does not have the big center piece.

Anyone know the part number?

I am determined to get to the bottom of this as I have already invested a large amount of time and money on this already!

OK i am getting closer to solving this.
Apparently I have the AMG styling Kit which is different to the full AMG Kit.
JT550, I think your cousins one fitted straight on as he had the full AMG kit.
They look exactly the same but the clip positions are off.

Apparently Mercedes sell the quad conversion kit (Trim and rear silencers with tailpipes) at an eye watering price of £1350.
They dont have the trims in the UK so i will have to take a risk (non refundable purchase) and see how it goes
They will also not divulge the part numbers to me either!!

I will keep you updated.
Thank you all for your help.

If

Just did this on my 2010. The inner structure of a regular AMG style S550 bumper is completely different from an S63 bumper, although they look identical on the outside.

Here's the differences:

The exhaust openings on the S550 bumper are narrower, because the tips are narrower than the S63 quad tips.

The inner bumper structure behind the diffuser encroaches into the space you need for the quad tips extra width. It has to be cut out of the way to make room or you can't change the tips.

The S63 diffuser hangs lower on the bottom. Two locking tabs on the diffuser need to mate with two receiving slots on the bumper's inner structure to secure the bottom edge. This is impossible on an S550 bumper, because the receiving slots are positioned much higher.

If you do this mod, get the parts from Rock City Auto Parts. No Vin needed, just drill through the selection menus for an S63. The two pieces are under $400. The center piece comes in unpainted styrene. I spray painted mine myself using Krylon Universal in metallic silver.

To secure the bottom edge, get two small black bungee cords. Under the car, dead center where the spare tire sits is a #20 Torks screw. Unscrew it about 1/4". Hook bungees from the screw out to the two locking tabs on the new diffuser. The tabs already have holes in them, so just hook the bungee in. Once both bungees are in, tighten the Torks screw to lock them in.
