I'll just start with the external DAC. It would be quite a shame if the stock system has a crappy DAC given how much the B&O upgrade cost....
Came across this while reading Chris The Swede's W221 Project thread (amazing BTW). He actually swapped in a complete, new B&O system. Looks like it consists of an extensive speaker array and amps. He mentions a "new" COMAND so maybe it does have different hardware.
Having dissected the H&K speakers I can tell you that the B&O array looks like it's worth every penny. i can see where it might be a little light on the bottom end. The H&K gets a 10" shallow mount dual coil sub in the parcel shelf, and two 6 1/2" shallow mount dual coil subs in the front door modules as well. With a little EQ they can pound like hell. The B&O gets twin 6 1/2"(?) subs in the parcel shelf. The doors all get conventional woofers.
The B&O looks like it was designed with an emphasis on warmth, accuracy and clarity, and to take advantage of DSP to create various types of soundstage and ambiance. The use of acoustic lense tweeters not only in the front door sail panels but again on the B pillars is a giveaway.
I'd probably add a small powered sub in the trunk (like the Infiniti BassLink) just to very subtly reinforce the bottom where the kick drum lives, but from the looks of your gear your car should sound terrific.
