How do you determine COMAND Map Version

Hi everyone,

Does anyone happen to know how to display the navigation map version/year on a W221? Is there a menu that can display this, or do you need to query the unit in DAS?

Thanks

Insert a maps update DVD and COMAND tells the release currently installed (and the release of the DVD inserted). SDS would be another option.

You can also click on the Nav tab at the top of the COMAND screen and when the different options appear, scroll down and you will see an option to select map information. When you select map information, the system tells you the version you're using.

Are you sure this works on an NTG3 COMAND?

Diesel Benz, I should have started my post with the caveat that the instructions I posted works on NTG 3.5. I was not sure what version of COMAND the OP was using. Thanks for the catch.

I tried it in a 2008 S600 (US Model) and that option did not appear on the Navi menu. It must be for NTG 3.5 only. I connected DAS and determined that map version. Thanks for everyone's help.

Just to confirm, I remember reading in WIS that the *only* way to determine map version with the older (NTG3) units is with DAS.

There are no popups, menus, or notifications when you insert a new disc.

Seems like a bit of an oversight to me.. I wonder what happens when someone buys a used S Class and takes it in asking if there are any map updates.

Do they really generate a service ticket and charge 1.0 hours of labour to connect DAS and find out? The alternative is to send you to the Parts dept to buy a disc that may not update your nav because it's already at the current version.

NTG3 does give you current version and asks you if really want to update to the 'latest and greatest' when you insert DL DVD-R with 2014 maps.

At least where I am; in Europe..perhaps for the US it is indeed different.

I believe the US version would be identical, however one must acquire the suspected newer disc (at an MSRP of $249 US) at a risk of them already having that version if they just purchased the car second hand. I agree it would be nice to just display the version number without requiring the expensive disc to divulge the data.

...or you can buy the $249 disc only to find out that your Telematics version is too old. And now you can't load the disc at all (even to find out what version your nav system is at) until you get a dealer to upgrade your Telematics.

Ask me how I know

Thanks to this forum and the help of a forum member, I have an appointment with the MB dealer next Tues to have Telematics updated. I'm trying to get this done without paying for it by stating that I bought a new disc and it won't load.

You would think that if I paid for a $250 disc, it should work or they should make my car accept it by doing the telematics update for free. Otherwise they have sold me a disc (with my make/model/year printed right on it) that does NOT work on that particular car. At this point, the disc does NOT work as advertised. It says nothing on the packaging about needing a telematics update

I plan to raise a stink in the dealership if necessary..........
