Check Engine Light on - NOx Sensor out?

Check Engine light came on yesterday, took it into the dealer today - needs a NOX sensor replaced. Should I go for all of them or let them go, one at a time?

Thanks and Regards

There are two on mine

Admittedly, it's not a 4matic, but same engine etc.

Maybe diferent pollution regs ?

Hmmm, if you have two in FR, then it seems I should have two over here in NA? I relied on what parts told me. I will look on WIS and see what it says.

OK, another N0x sensor bit the dust, and I am going in to get it replaced. It pulled up a 111800 code "The upper limit value of component NOx sensor downstream of the catalytic converter has been exceeded". Yep another one - NOx sensor. So I will verify that it is a different one and how many this car has. I think you are correct that it has 2 or more. I wished they would have replaced both at the same time when the last one went out.

EPC shows 1 NOx sensor covered by Emissions Warranty up to 3 years/50,000 miles (whichever comes first) depending on state vehicle was first sold. In addition, if it is the sensor again MBUSA should cover previous repair for 1 year/unlimited mileage.

2 nox sensors

before start swapping sensors have the scr controller updated and "offending" nox sensor re-learned as there is a bug in older code that will result in nox sensor out of bounds false positive

The second one is item No. 580, I believe.

2012 s350 4 matic
I have a 2012 s350 bluetec 4 matic. I think it has 3 nox sensors. I have replaced two. I have never been as disappointed in a car as I am in this one. Now it need a new adblue pump. I can't believe Mercedes would release a car with an emission system this bad. I have owned at least 6 diesel Mercedes. Loved all of them.

If the pump broke why replace it (depending on your states emissions). Remove the entire emissions setup DPF and EGR and disable Adblue, seems to be the most reliable setup for a high mile car. The actual (no emissions) power train is very durable, Better mpg and more power doesn't hurt either.....

Great!!! I am in Illinois and am looking for someone as well and my system hasnt failed yet. However, most of items are disabled digitally so the cars computer nolonger is looking for the sensors and a response. I am not 100% to all the details of the process. I know of at least one person in NY who can do it, but would prefer to have someone in Illinois would make it much easier.

I am all for doing it. Do you think the person in New York would share this procedure. I love the car but the emissions is a nightmare. Thanks

Ok so due to the fact there are so few S350 Diesels in the US, tuners seem to be few and far between. Lots of companies offer these services of every model Bluetec but few do the S350. I have spoken to 2 companies, one in New York, and one in Canada. At this point I would refer the Canada tuner. Chiptunning.CA I have been emailing them. They can do everything, DPF, EGR, and disable the Swirl motor. All of the items that fail, $860 and $65 shipping. We need to remove the ECU and ship it to them and they ship it back with those items deleted. You also need to remove the DPF with a piece of straight pipe at your local exhaust shop (I dont know where this is on the car so I dont know how hard this would be to tackle but I cant imagine it wouldn't be too terrible). You tuck the wires and you are done. Once you get the ecu back and install it in the car, the DPF is already disabled but you need to remove the unit to see add benefit.

So due to the removal of these systems mpg goes up 2-3 per gallon (min) and there will be a bump in power. Makes perfect sense, as now the car can breathe easier.

I am still interested in local options but there isn't much, I am looking tho

Thanks: I really appreciate your sharing this information. I am going to try to contact them tomorrow. Price is okay. I was quoted 950 at dealership to put new ad blue pump in. Then something else will happen. I will keep you informed of progress

Great keep us posted! I should get my car delivered this week and this will be one of my first modifications made, as the MPG increases allow for it to pay for itself.

Wait till your ad blue heater goes out. Mine was covered by warranty. $2500 plus installation. I had injectors leaking. Your right, I have never had a car with so many issues. The first nox sensor went out just after 50k. The forward one. Then 3 years ago the second one the rear one. The first one cost me $1200. The second one I had a hell of time getting out. I took it to a friend. He used a special snap-on tool. It came off in 2 seconds. On the way home the car came up with a warning that the car was lowering and not to drive. What kind of crap is that. I got it home and it gas sat for two years. The roofers wanted me to move my expensive ride. I started it up and got a message that the car was rising. It did. I'll be damned. Then I got a message, auxiliary battery failure. Didn't know I had one. Looked in the manual under battery and auxiliary. Nothing. It is a great comfortable ride which was the only car I could ride in after back surgery 7 years ago. As far as quality, the Germans have a long way to go to catch up to the Japanese. My Toyota FJ Cruiser is 15 years old. Alternator went out at 150k. Very little maintenance. Safe and goes anywhere. The S350 is an embarrassment to Mercedes-Benz.

Hey Nuru. Hoping you will see this as I see you haven't been active on this forum since last year.

I have a 2012 ML350 Blutec with the OM642 engine. I have been getting the same 111800 CEL ("The upper limit value of component NOx sensor downstream of the catalytic converter has been exceeded"). I was wondering after you replaced it, did the CEL go away? Its gonna cost me nearly $700 to replace the N0x sensor so I just want to be careful in not throwing away money. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Did you receive the MB Bluetec Settlement documents?
I received the documents and took the car to the dealer. All is well. Plus you might get some money. I am sending in the papers now.
