Anyone ever changed their ambient lighting on their 221?

It worked I made it work. There was a bunch of custom work done and I ended up using the stock OEM connectors as well. Also I was able to keep the original plastic lightning instead of using any tubing or led strips so it's all stock looking but custom. Some timing soldering cutting etc. It's decent involving so I. Will install them all back and take more pictures as complete in the whole car.

So the color looks good. I got the pieces from bodyshop they came out great. Got rid of the chrome on the bottom. Hooked the lights but I've ran into a little issue. The stock leds were so small and litterly took no space and these are hard to fit as they are longer. So what I need to do is get the flat top led which I have sourced and glue the top to the stock led plastic on the ambient light and extend a buswire down right off the led than heat shrink it and solder the wire on them.. Only way.
So I went into the car system and the leds actually dim Lower as well. But I wanted to ask you guys will adding a resistor of some sort make them more powerful

Can we change color in the fibre optic? Thanks

Thanks to this thread that inspired me to waste countless hours modding the ambient lighting on my W216.
- My own android app
- My own firmware for bluetooth capable LED controller
- Automatic brightness (based on light sensors)
- Mutliple colors for each LED zone
- Custom animations
- Door open events (dash and doors go red and footwell leds increase in brightness)
- Maintain footwell LEDs when the system is off.
Here are the results:

Has anyone had any luck doing this on a 16' W212 E63s AMG? Im looking to upgrade my ambient lighting to have more colors and be brighter... If someone has any advice on how to start this project or where I can get it done please let me know !

I want to replace the original LED chip and OEM plastic strip by LED strip, is there any issue or damage ecountered due to overload of door control module since led strip comsume more current than a single LED chip?

If you are replacing 2 small LEDs by a strip of dozens of LEDs you should be worried about current consumption. Damage can happen instantly or over a long time. I would run a separate wire. It's pretty easy to get wiring through to the door from the cabin.

If run a separate wire then interior ambient light is not control by command any more, which might not convenient for me. In addition, earlier quote from a member located in Sweden saying that he just change the led strips (yellow color on the photo), it looks very nice and easy therefore i want to get an advice if there any issue if i using low consumption led strips (the led strips I want to try is 12V & 0.14A/m, each door using a led strips around 70cm then power consumption of the led strips per door just around 0.1A)?

I did a test with led strips (12V & 01.4A/m) connected directly to the original illumination wire and it works with error detected by doors control module, I tried to cut the led strips from 70cm to 5cm (only 03 led chips are equipped) then the error messages still remain unchanged therefore i come to conclusion that current consumption of the led strips doesn't matter (70cm led strips consumed only 0.1A therefore it will not cause overload of the door control module) however the circuit of the led strips is not the same as original one and cause errors.
Conclusion: direct led strips to original illuminate wire will works and no harmful to the door control module but you will get error when scan with diagnostic tools.

Hi! Where did you get the lights from and how did you install? The polar color on my car isn't working on 2 doors. Hoping it's not an electrical issue and just needs a light replacement.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Interesting, so I put almost the entire interior from a 2010 into my 2007 (not the COMAND though) and I wondered if I'd be able to change the LED colors but no luck so far. I don't have the option in COMAND although my scan tool does have the ability to change the color but when I tried it nothing happened. Anyone know how I could go about getting the colors to change since all the door panels and the center wood dash piece all have the LED's with different color capability?

I afraid that only LED's with different color capability might not enough, you might also need a wiring as well as control modules (Command and door SAMs). The control from command allow only amber or blue LED on or both of LED therefore you will get 3 color.
